So I thought of something in a game like Destiny I would like to have. I don't know if this is in any other games, but whatever.
Say you get this armor piece for a character that looks really cool.
Then you get better armor that has better stats, but looks less cool.
I think it would be really awesome if you could give the armor with better stats the skin of the cool looking armor. You could make your character look however you wanted without making him suck compared to others on his level. I think THAT would be true customization.
Thoughts?

The only disadvantage to this would be you could hide your exotic armor piece in pvp. Once we all learn the exotics and their abilities identification of said items will be a nice advantage to have. Adds more tactical thinking.

Quite a few games have this option, I would love to see it in Destiny but I don't think it will happen.

I would like my character to have all the usual armour and then a hat like this

That would be cool indeed

I wish

This would be very cool.

100% agree

I agree with theslatcher.

Wonderlandonline just to throw in another game that does this exactly like you mentioned.

As someone who loves logic... No.

This. In the beta, my favorite gwalior version was freaking ugly and unshapely. I so badly wanted to swap it out, I ended up using a much worse helmet in exchange for aesthetics.

Kinda what shaders are for. It doesn't change the look but it will allow for physical modifications but it does change their colors.

Good idea, similar to GW2 and "transmutation" of weapons and gear to use stats of higher gear on the gear you find visually appealing.
-
I remember this happening in Terraria too of all games. I'd love to see something like this if only to stop everyone looking the same. It does have a downside, however. You can't judge the stats of a player in combat based on their visual appearance. Whether or not this will be an issue it's too early to tell.

Transmutation.

I think there should be a "loyalty" system for armours. The longer you use an armour, the more you can upgrade it. This could work by having defence xp independent of the player and specific to an armour perhaps?

Woah... you are in the katana group too? I joined it a billion years ago and thought it died. But what does that have to do with destiny? My god would i love a katana in destiny...
-
So, something like this then?
-
That was one of the things that bothered me about Skyrim: I loved Imperial Armor, but it sucks compared to the better ones. I thought it would be nice if you could continuously upgrade the armor with steel ingot until you max it out, which would be set at whatever level you are.

Clothes are overrated.

What if Armor just matched our level?

Edited by welderman adam: 4/5/2013 1:10:42 PMI think you should have to make the choice, functionality or fashion. Full on armor or costume creation would be cool though. Allowing you to use the exp or whatever that you've gained as an assigned value.
-
I would love this idea personally, I hate the high level RPG armour that makes your guy look like he belongs in an 80's glam rock group.
-
They have that in DC Universe
-
That's something I'vs always wanted in any game
