The image was rotating - so the outer "ring" is actually a blur of the numbers. Once we found that it was a lot of experimentation - complicated by random jumps in the rotation.

So you had to go back and un-rotate everything? Would you mind linking the results of your toils? Where the numbers are somewhat visible in a haze of black dots.

I was saving out each step - so I uploaded those and the guys in the IRC hit them manually in photoshop (or gimp). Recon Ocelot has the cleanest rotate fix I've seen so far (though his came out just a few minutes too late of someone figuring it out) - I'll send him over to post it.

Current working theory is a rotating solution. Some people are currently going back to do some rework and analysis of existing data.
