So am i right in assuming that the pictures change depending on where you are in the world?

Not necessarily where YOU are, but where everyone is. From what we can gather, it seems the picture on the right is used to blur the picture on the left. It is generated according to how many unique users are viewing the page during any 5 minute window and their locations on Earth. On day one some users reported being able to make out shapes of continents on the right image when there were enough people viewing it in that continent simultaneously.

Oh right. I think i get it. I noticed the image i put up has slowly been losing the white part of it, would that because there are less people online?
