Excellent observation! It's hard to think of something that describe those fainted triangular shape.. Forest? Fallen heros? Could be anything at the moment until we acquired more information.

Sticking with my city idea, it's almost like "evil" is surrounding the center circle - nothing to base that on except gut feeling.
