NOTE: im currently only using wikipedia as a source, and i have no idea if this has been stated before. ive been hiding under a rock, hearing whispers of destiny. Now, it is time to embrace it.
So, on that note, lets get started. so far weve seen two Geomantic figures on alphalupi.bungie.net
populus
and puer
so lets dig into the meaning (literal metaphoric) of these symbols, starting with mondays figure:
populus : populus is latin for 'the people.' the figure resembles a group of people viewed from above. the figure is usually associated with cancer. it refers to a gathering or or assembly of people. This is very natural, for though there may be a great deal of movement in the crowd there is little effect on the crowd as a whole. It is favorable with favorable figures, and unfavorable with unfavorable ones.
now, the idea of a 'crowd' or large group is commonplace, even without looking at the direct translation of populus. if this is a hint to destiny as a game, then the idea of multiplayer has (probably) just been confirmed. the phrase it refers 'to a gathering or or assembly of people ... there may be a great deal of movement in the crowd there is little effect on the crowd as a whole.' could refer to bungies community (the seventh column)
now for puer, today's figure: this is Latin for 'the boy'. the figure represents a sword, and refers to male energies (aggression & passion, but also war.) It is bad in most cases, but good in cases where boys (in antiquity and medieval society) excelled : love, and war. Astrologically it is associated with Aries and Mars . All elements are active except Water, the element of emotion; its inner element is air, but due to it being ruled by Mars, its outer element is fire.
this could be referencing another theme of the game. this could be war, love, and possibly (but doubtfully) masculinity. the section about medival society peaks my interest. could this be set in a society based on a medieval hierarchy?
