So pretend you are the only survivor in a plane crash. you can crash in the canadian wilderness with a hatchet, and a days worth of food, or in Africa with a jacket, and a small pistol. if you decide to crash in canada, if you dont want the hatchet, and food, you may choose a warm sweater, and a knife. In Africa, you have the choice between the original gear and a fire starting kit with a bow and arrow you use in your backyard, and are a decent shot. Which would you choose if you wanted to survive for as long as possible, and eventully reenter civilization, and how?

Where am I crashing in Canada or Africa? Those are important
-
...yes Id crash in Canada, eat berries that make me throw up, survive a tornado in a cave, and then get found by some randoms. All whole surviving with a hatchet given to me by my dad before the divorce. Think I wouldn't catch your reference OP? Cause I caught the reference.

Edited by Zeliur The Mad: 12/23/2014 5:04:58 PMProbably the alternate Canada choice, mainly because what is food if you're going to freeze before you eat it? I'd probably hunt smaller animals and try to carve a bow and make some arrows. then go for bigger game. Using the sun as a compass, I'll head south while doing all I have said and will hopefully reach America alive.

Heres what I would do. I would chose to land in Canada with the hatchet and food. I would scavange the forest for food, then would put some small dead trees against a tree trunk or something for a makeshift shelter. In the morning, I would eat something small, like a quarter of the burrito I had in my bag for the plane trip. Then look around for anything usefull such as a cave, berries, and sharp sticks or something I could possble use for self defense. Then using the hatchet, i would carve a makeshift spear, and like the boy in Hatchet, try to spear some fish. I'd continue lik this, an hope I'm as lucky as the boy in hatchet, who finds that there is a giant slab of flint in the back of his cave, so that when they search for me, I could maybe make a fire.

Lot of factors missing. Season would be a very important factor to know for the move/stay question. Surrounding terrain and climate are another 2 huge ones. Alone with only a hatchet and a day of food would be nearly impossible for anyone, even those highly trained. Can you use wreckage to help or are you naked with ONLY a hatchet and food?

Canada, easily. I can handle the cold just fine, and I know how to hunt for food and the general lay of the land for Northern Canada so I'd be set.
-
Where exactly in Africa would I land? Because, you know, it's a really big place.
-
For everyone asking about Africa, you land in the sarengetti. A large open plain with tall brown grass, lions, leopards, cheetahs, cape buffallos, snakes, and the like, with no sign of human civilization.

The Hatchet was a pretty good book.
-
But who was the others?
-
I'd start by looking for the hatch ;)
-
Definitely Northern Canada with the hatchet. Considering I already live there and know how to survive in this environment.
-
I'd choose Canada with the hatchet and food. Id survive because i watch too much Dual Survival.

Where in Canada and where in Africa am i crashing exactly? These are very important factors.
