- 343 Guilty Spark.
Why would 343 GS confuse John for a Forerunner so many times? Is he crazy? That's the popular opinion, but why point that out time and time again?
Why reintroduce 343 GS in Primordium after he was supposedly killed in Halo 3, and reveal that a Forerunner AI isn't always localized to one construct? It seems like a very significant plot point, yet it's never been fully addressed.
What if 343 Guilty Spark wasn't as crazy as he seemed?
I'm calling it: in Halo 5, the changes the Librarian made to Chief's physiology fully manifest and unlock his Geas: the Bornstellar Didact.
If I recall correctly, even the humans in Cryptum and Primordium had to have their Geas unlocked in some way, why not Chief? What if the Librarian did more than grant the Chief an immunity to The Composer, and just didn't have time to fill Chief in about his Geas what with The Didact finding them?

Promethean knights will be revealed as cheaters and modders.

Well after what happened in Spartan Ops? My thoughts on Halo 5 have suddenly changed dramatically.
So Requiem is destroyed and Halsey is now an antagonist? Who ever saw that coming? Talk about unexpected. I get the feeling Halo 5 (or at least Spartan Ops Season 2) is going to focus itself around Earth for the most part, and then venture off. That, or the UNSC try to track and kill Jul to retrieve the second half of the key.
They better not ruin the chief, that's all I have to say.
Posted By: nightspark Humans were descendants of Forerunner, until 343i got their hands on the Halo.
This, mate. Every previous game and book supported this theory, and then 343i comes along and ruins it.

Humans were descendants of Forerunner, until 343i got their hands on the Halo.

The term "Forerunner" refers to the dominant society of species in the galaxy that had taken up the Mantle, not a specific species. At that point, 343 thought humans had taken up the Mantle, so to him, they were the new Forerunners. He was confused that such an advanced species wasn't aware of the purpose of the Halos; he couldn't fathom that their history had been so obscured.

Edited by ROBERTO jh: 2/5/2013 2:56:43 AMI always thought, since Cryptum at least, that Spark called him Forerunner in Halo 3 because that is the title given to those who have inherited the Mantle. Realized Reclaimers are Forerunners. But since Halo 4, those other quotes start to make more sense. Also to those saying 343i changed who humanity was, no they didn't. The Halo 3 terminals make it overwhelmingly obvious the Librarian, at the very least, discovered humanity on Earth and fell in love with them; even at the time, Spark's comment "you are Forerunner" can easily be explained with the preceeding lines "you are the child of my makers, inheritor of all they left behind" as if to say that we are "Forerunner" in the sense that we have taken their Mantle and become like them. Cryptum merely expounds upon that idea.

My theory is that Halo 5 will get very boring very fast.

First up: you're basing your theories on 11 year old dialogue and pre-343i Halo. It's generally accepted that the direction of the Forerunner and human relationship was flipped on its head once 343i took over and released the Forerunner saga. Humans aren't forerunner... but they were both made by the Precursors. Hell, humans and the Forerunners went to war against each other. Regardless... I'm not sure what you mean by "unlock his Geas: the Bornstellar Didact". Putting aside the fact that we already have TWO Didacts (well, one died in Halo 4, but you get my point), a geas cannot transform a human into something its not - It's basically a subconscious command which influences the way the particular being acts. The geas in MC made him resistant to the composer (and apparently a great warrior), but it did not mutate him in the same way that happened with Bornstellar and the orignal Didact.

This theory is old lol

I've got a few theories floating around. I think it's possible that Forerunner isn't a species, but a title held by those that protect the Mantle. Since humans were supposed to be the ones to take that spot once the Forerunners were gone, it's possible that they are now the Forerunners. Also, since Chief never removes his armor, and Spark sees the armor as very very similar to Forerunner armor (probably because some of the tech comes from reverse engineering Covenant armor, which is based off of Forerunner relics), he thinks Chief could be Forerunner. Another possibility is that, since the Librarians took special care of the human species and saw them as the next carriers of the Mantle, Spark sees humans as "Inheritors of all they left behind." When he says "You are Forerunner" he is most likely referring to that fact, rather than Chief literally being a Forerunner. The reason the Librarian was able to do that special thing to Chief was likely because she put the possibility for it into the ancient humans, similar to how she was able to add things like the Geas to ancient humans like Chakas.

You're gonna have to explain what a Geas is. The Forerunner books are too confusing for me to read. I wish Eric Nylund wrote them.

Edited by GKR: 2/3/2013 5:53:07 PMIf 343i uses this, this could be one of the greatest plot twists in gaming history. If not, then this will be nothing more than the next "Indoctrine Theory" scenario.

Someone posted a theory on this a while back. I think both of you are right on this.

Damn I need to read the books. The Halo story is so much deeper than I'd ever imagined.

343i Continuity 343i Stahp!

I used to read all the books, then I realized Bungie ignored the books so I was wasting my time and haven't read one since Onyx. Then 343 took over and made the books mandatory reading. I can't win.
-
I always figured we'd eventually get something akin to Marathon Infinity in the Halo plot. If that's the case, then the Chief being present at the original Halo firing isn't that much of a stretch. Then again, I've heard that Bungie originally intended for the forerunners to be human, and in that case it could just be that 343 sees humans, and assumes they've retained the knowledge of the forerunners.

I'd always maintained time travel. Sticking to my guns on that one..
