Why is it so many of the #religion threads are Atheists insulting others, or in some way attempting to bash religion? I can understand if maybe you are asking questions, but if you ask a question, shouldn't you have an open mind?
-
An open mind is always a good idea when you're on a website designed to enable the flow of ideas from one gamer to another. The conversations you're describing are not the sort of thing we intended to promote when we were brainstorming about the possibilities for Bungie.net. In a perfect-world scenario, civility and respect would rule the dialogue. Unfortunately, it ain't a perfect world, and a venue as open and inclusive as Bungie.net will be prone to the same ills. That's exactly why each and every member of this microcosm now has the power to insulate yourselves from the things you don't want to see. Gone are the days of you waiting, defenselessly, for a Ninja to find some free time to save you from the trolls. You all have defense mechanisms at the ready now. We want nothing more than to cultivate a scene in which everyone plays nice. What we've learned over the years is that no amount of rules or moderators will accomplish that. We never think its okay for one member of this community to disrespect another. This is why we enlisted you (yes, You!) to choose the company you want to keep here. Instead of policing every word spoken on our forum, we would prefer to let you lay down the law.

Because most Atheists think they are more "right" than others, even though we do not know for sure if God exists. There is no solid proof either way.
-
Ah, the good ol' persecution complex. The level of what constitutes 'offense' and disrespect seems to be startlingly low among religious people on this site. Also
Posted by: doctor woot HOW DARE PEOPLE CRITICIZE WHAT I UNQUESTIONINGLY BELIEVE
-
i think people are misdefining 'open mind' as non-criticizing.
-
Well it's mostly the same people just making threads expecting us to care that they are atheist or expecting people to reaffirm their thinking. We might as well rename the Offtopic /r/Atheism because that's pretty much what this is now.
-
Because from an Atheist point of view, the theists on this site have yet to make a logical case for their religion.
-
Lol expectation of people.

Edited by Expunge: 2/3/2013 9:18:17 PMYeah I have noticed that.
-
What do you mean by open mind?
-
Edited by Quantum Echo: 2/3/2013 11:24:54 AMNobody usually debates properly, it's usually just arguing. I have a very open mind, as I'm a Londoner (so I live with a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society) and my mum's a feminist. However, because many others don't have much influence for an open mind, (I'm not saying everybody, just many, I believe.) it's more or less arguing. Which is why Religion topics were banned in the first place. It was always the reason.
-
It's a classic example of doublethink. Both sides simultaneously bash the other lot and see themselves as the persecuted group. You're doing your bit now.
-
Atheists tend to have a really large superiority complex and can't accept the fact that people don't believe what they believe. And no, I'm not religious. I think it says a lot about the lives and maturity of the people who have nothing to do but bash religion on a regular basis. It's really pathetic in all honestly.
-
I believe every one has the right to think and say what they want. An open mind does not mean you accept another way of thinking, or life style, it means you tolerate it. I have many strong opinions and beliefs on how things should be. But I tolerate others, because one of my beliefs, is that we all have a choice.

Mfw religion threads.
-
What were The Crusades?!?!?!?
-
Nah, atheists aren't the only ones throwing the insults around.
-
In my opinion, no faith that can't be defended is worth following. I welcome these threads.
-
Because it's fun to point out the holes in what people use as their foundation of their worldview.

Edited by Winy: 2/3/2013 6:33:15 AMYou know what I've noticed about a lot of these religion threads? People don't know what the hell they're talking about. These threads are freaking terrible compared to Sec7s discussions before the update. There are so many people posting so many falsehoods I don't want to waste my time explaining why x and y are wrong to twenty-seven people. Before the update, if you wanted to discuss religion, you joined the Sec7s. If you joined the Sec7s, that meant you really wanted to talk about this stuff seriously. If you wanted to talk about this stuff seriously, the debating was phenomenal. But you know what? Now these threads are public, and people who aren't invested in discussion and don't know a damn thing about what they're talking about flood them.

Most theist/atheist threads on Bnet are ridiculous.

You all smell bad

Something I noticed about these religion threads: MadMax makes 90% of them.

A lot of us dislike religion.

Some like peanut butte and dislike chocolate, others like chocolate and dislike peanut butter, some like both and some like neither.
