If the title shows up and isn't censored, I want you to take a second before you freakout and hide this. Most of the Flood hates rap because of its overuse of drugs, sex, money, women and violence. While that can be true for most mainstream rap, there are rappers out there who like to put deeper meanings into their lyrics.
One rapper who does this the best in my opinion is Lupe Fiasco. The song I linked up top is not his best vocally or even my favorite rap he does. The message however is great and that is what I'm trying to get across. Lupe also released a song a few years back called: Dumb it Down.
It is about not making songs just to make them and instead putting deeper messages in his songs. This is rare to find in artist today.
Neither of the songs I have linked are my favorite by him nor are they considered his best. I want you to listen to his message though.

The -blam!- is Lupe Fiasco? I don't know, but I do know that whoever he is, Frank Sinatra is better than him.

Edited by Unisaur 64: 2/2/2013 3:00:50 PMI played Tony Hawks games incessantly as a kid, so I don't really mind rap. There's just not a lot of rap that I particularly like. I don't really need a song to have a deep meaning in its lyrics, I just have to like the sound. Honestly, I never gave Lupe a chance when I heard him on the radio, but after that, maybe I should. Thanks OP.

Deeper than that macklemoar dude.

I see a serious lack of 2pac in this thread and it needs to change. NOW!

hid, and muted. good day sir.

Edited by DarkSunnyboy: 2/2/2013 2:44:51 AMA recent one I found out about is Macklemore, his songs have a deeper meaning but half the viewers probably don't get it. "Thrift Shop" was meant to show that it's okay for people to shop at stores that don't consist of popular brands that people buy to "fit in" per se. More from Macklemore: Otherside. Wings.

That video is really well done. Having black people going into blackface? That's a deep statement. The community has become the parody that was so vicious against it. I will be following him from here out. Thank you for introducing me.

Lupe Fiasco is indeed a good artist.
-
Now that there is an example of a good rapper. Manages to put a good message into his songs without constant slang words and abbreviations.
-
You mean Bitch good
-
I haven't actually listened to Lupe since his album like three years back, but I agree. He does a good job with actually putting a meaning into his songs. That doesn't do it for me though. I don't think too many of his songs are catchy I guess.
-
Lupe is probably my favorite artists, but this is not one of his better songs IMO. I mean it's a good message, just not a great actual song.
-
My favorite.
-
Great lyrics; I know the message is important, but the ability to have good flow and vocals (if that's what the rapper is going for) is pretty necessary. Examples of a great combination are: Hopsin - Ill Mind 5 Blue Scholars - Yuri Kochiyama I'll be adding Lupe Fiasco to a Spotify playlist though. Good stuff.

I'm not most of the Flood, thank goodness.

And I just kick, and push, and coast

This guy is the only rapper I can listen to. Linked is my favorite song by him.

Bitch Bad is a great song, even though it will fall upon deaf ears for the people that need to hear it.
-
Lupe Fiasco is great. He's one of the only rap artists I can listen to.
-
First off I don't see why people would freak out over the word bitch. Also you are acting like other genres of music don't have meaning behind their lyrics which isn't true.

lol lupe fiasco
