A simple question for people who are Pro Life.

Why does abortion have to be banned? Why can't you frown upon it, yet let people live how they want to live? Why do we have to bend to your wishes? Why deny people what they want based on your views? To not sound completely libertarian: There's a case against the legalization of drug use and similar items because there's a clear and direct link between the action and a negative reaction that hurts the person involved. This isn't the case with abortion. Performed correctly it causes no harm to the mother and nobody else is hurt. You can claim that the fetus is hurt, that the fetus is alive, that the fetus is a person, but that doesn't make it true. A clump of cells does not define a person. If you lose an arm, a leg, a person didn't die. You lost an arm, a leg. What makes a person, a person, and not the physical form but the consciousness, the mind, the sustain electro/chemical chain reaction going on in the brain. And a fetus doesn't have a mind. It doesn't have a consciousness. There's no sustained electro/chemical reaction going on because the brain doesn't exist yet.

Actually no, the brain doesn't spring into existence at the moment of birth. To answer your main question: because they believe you are killing a person. Whether or not you agree with them, you should recognize that's not an unreasonable motivator.

    •
And a fetus doesn't have a mind. It doesn't have a consciousness. There's no sustained electro/chemical reaction going on because the brain doesn't exist yet.
So what you're saying is that if an unborn baby's brain is functional that it should not be aborted?

When you have sex you are contractually agreeing to be responsible for the possibility of a child. What about the right to life of the fetus that will be a child?

      • Seriously? Nobody else is hurt? The baby is murdered, that is the maximum amount of hurt. No morally decent human being can stand by and allow murder to be legal without protest, just because it does not directly involve them. That's utterly sick.

        • When an individual carries out an abortion, they are removing a "clump of cells" that has the capability to develop into a a conscious human with a mind that is sustained by electro/chemical chain reactions. Therefore, to anyone with any appreciation for life and basic moral values, an abortion is essentially ending the life of a (future) human.

          • Because I was supposed to be aborted. It was prevented. And although my mother tried to kill me a few time after I was born as well, I generally like living.

            • Yeah I just love creating what can essentially be the next Albert Einstein and taking advantage of his defenselessness to violently kill him just because I was too lazy to use a condom.
The only reason I think that abortion should remain legal is because women will just be going up back alleys and endangering themselves and the child. Or if a woman's life was in danger then it is justifiable. But other than that I see it as murder, but yeah I don't think abortion should be illegal.

              • You can tell people that a fetus isn't a human until you're blue in the fingertips, but they will always say it is. In their mind, it's a human as soon as the sperm cell fertilizes the egg and nothing you say will convince them otherwise. Because of that, abortion will always be murder to them. I completely agree with you though. A few cells the size of an eraser is not a person. It has no conscience, no mind, no anything. Stopping it from becoming a person is as much murder as anybody who jerks themself off into a tissue, or abstains from sex altogether.

                • Personally, I'd only ever be ok with Abortion if the mother's life was in danger. But then again, I'm not the one having the child. And for me, it's not that a fetus isn't yet a person, it's the fact abortion denys that fetus from developing a mind, a consciousness, and becoming a person. Wow! This is probably the first super serious post I have ever posted on B.net, like ever! But yeah, that's how I feel, hate on it if you want, but, yeah. Probably going to regret posting this, but here goes!
