Title for reference:
I've seen some horrible, mean, disgusting and racist tags on a decent number of threads, anyway to report just a tag? Rather than "Hide" the whole post?

Tags (even offensive ones) are a sort of "double-edged sword", I am discovering. If someone makes or frequently uses a tag that is unacceptable (to me), the tagging system is a way for me to quickly "take care of it". I just do a filter on that tag, see if it is being used by a particular user (or users) and depending on how that tag is being used/abused, I can either hide all of the topics that have that tag, or even mute the user(s) who are abusing it. Not only does that get those topics (and users) out of my sight, but I would imagine that it feeds into the "global mute" system that Achronos spoke of.

seriously? stop crying and realize not everything you see on a forum has to have your stamp of approval. it's not like it's hurting anyone.
-
Well Achronos's response is nice. I've been hiding every thread I see with the tag so... eh.
-
Thank you for the information Recon and Achronos.

Part of the ignore system is that it watches the tags on things that are hidden and muted. If the system notices a tag popping up a fair bit, it lets the moderators know so they can check it out and alias it (turn all instances of the tag into something else) if necessary. The bar for this is very high - we don't want to influence the tagging system too much.

I've not seen a method to report/hide/mute a specific tag. With that said, I am under the impression that with enough "no reason" mutes/hides, if there is a common tag that is getting hidden/muted, that tag does receive attention and the mutes/hides have an effect.
