At nearly every turn, Spartan Ops let IGN editors down for failing to live up to Halo standard -- and that finally changes on Monday, January 21. Episode Six of Halo 4's downloadable weekly cooperative campaign kicks off the second half of Season One, and it goes to great lengths to make up for past mistakes.

Just a section of the article posted by IGN.
I haven't played Spartan Ops in a long time (I didn't finish the first half) but I am really happy that it has improved a lot. I might actually go back and catch up, so I can experience the new missions. Have you guys tried it out, and if so did you like it?

Debatable, we'll see soon if actually 343 can rescue the wreck they have made of Halo.
-
Let's wait and see if it's actually any good.

Edited by KingInTheNorth: 1/19/2013 6:16:45 PMHave they stopped reusing the same maps and having the characters pretend they're in a brand new area? Or hired new character dialogue writers?
-
Spartan Ops is very, VERY gimmicky and lazily put together. Inexcusable.

Edited by ZealotSG: 1/18/2013 11:41:07 PMHaven't watched the vid yet but I've read the article.
sneaking through groups of sleeping Covenant
Well it's about time. That was NOTICEABLY absent in the Campaign. It's been in EVERY fps Halo game except Halo 4.
The way these environments unfold in Episode Six feels much more akin to an actual Halo campaign -- open-ended environments with more of that sandbox freedom -- than the recycled, mostly enclosed wave-based arenas from Episodes 1-5.
Does this mean that the kill 'em all objectives occur less often? The less like Firefight, the better. Campaign is infinitely more replayable. Mainly, checkpoints = infinite possibilities
This is because 343 is taking advantage of its own resources -- with campaign designers and animators no longer working on the core Master Chief portion of Halo 4, they're more readily available to help create better, more interesting add-on missions for Spartan Ops. The studio's using more of its talent to make Spartan Ops better -- and it is absolutely working.
So that explains why Shootout in Valhalla was abomination.

Do you now get to be able to press 2 buttons instead of one in a mission?
-
The big problem that I have with Spartan Ops isn't that they just reuse maps, it's just that they spam enemies at you for no apparent reason, just dragging the game on a lot longer than it needs to. However, I still think they're quite fun with mates though.

Episodes 4 and 5 were much better than the first three, but spartan ops is still at its core a broken game-mode. I always play the chapters on legendary the first time so I never have to again.
-
You always save the best for last. What did people expect?
-
I personally enjoy Spartan Ops. So if it is getting better, sounds awesome!
-
To be fair, it is IGN saying it, do it more than likely doesn't.
-
The first half got better with time, but it was still pretty lackluster. Hopefully 343 can really pull out all the stops for this next half-series, and then the next season or two.
-
LET ME LOSE 343 LET ME LOSE RAAAAAHHHHHH
-
I got bored of SO because it was the same maps over and over again, I really hope we get some variety this time around.
-
Meh.... Probably won't replay them more than once or twice.

Edited by ZealotSG: 1/18/2013 11:48:56 PMWatching the video now. Editing as I go. #ghostified I see that they've finally paired up the Covenant and Prometheans more appropriately. Less of that lazy Knight + Grunts encounter. I'm skeptical about that Defend objective. Will there be punishment for failure? Is this character invincible? Shame they didn't show more of it. I got to admit, that captured mission looks well paced. And that level with the Shade and Ghosts looks heavenly! I'm still skeptical though. I won't be going off guard this time. I will analyze EVERYTHING.

Edited by A 3 Legged Goat: 1/18/2013 11:18:05 PMI couldn't find the paragraph about playing offline. Did 343 not say we could keep them on our HDD after we DL them from online?
-
Don't get your hopes up people..
-
Too bad the connection still sucks dick.
-
I see Broadswords. I like.
-
Entirely expected, the release portion was a test of the waters, the follow-up should be a refinement.
-
LOL Halo 4 in general. I'll probably get back into playing once SO: S2 comes out Monday.

Edited by perinski93: 1/18/2013 5:55:08 PMThe first season was supposed to be an intro for everyone. Their objective was to get everyone acquainted with everyone and get a general idea of what the plot will be. hopefully it will pick up the pace now.

About damn time.

Edited by Twiggyy: 1/18/2013 5:50:50 PMI never liked Spartan OPs. It seems very lazy and very repetitive. I cannot believe this was their replacement for Firefight. Very disappointing

Looking forward to it.
