Are you pro-life? If you are, then "JUST SAY NO" to ABSTINENCE. Think of all the world-class athletes, musicians, actors, doctors, scientists, and inventors that were denied the chance to be with us today, as they were never born. If only their would-be parents had had another drink that hot night back in college and not abstained from getting it on, we'd be enjoying their gifts today.
“However brief our time in the sun, if we waste a second of it, or
complain that it is dull or barren or (like a child) boring, couldn't
this be seen as a callous insult to those unborn trillions who will
never even be offered life in the first place?”

“We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here.”

~Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion
I hope OP isn't serious
-
the sheer amount of bias and stupidity here is amazing. Good luck with this philosophical belief
-
I think this is nice as an anti-pro-life, anti-abstinence joke thread, but Dawkins is an idiot and his attempt at philosophy was a failure.
-
It's not the potential for success which is why they shouldn't be aborted. They shouldn't be aborted because they are humans, and as such have rights. Really, you are quoting the God Delusion? That is one of the most laughably bad and arrogant attempts at philosophy I have ever started reading.

May 2009 – The White House budget eliminates all funding for abstinence-only education and replaces it with “comprehensive” sexual education, repeatedly proven to increase teen pregnancies and abortions. Schools need to teach academic skills, not indoctrinate. Many students can't even spell abstinence.
-
How about we say no to abstinence because it's an awful program to teach to children which certainly isn't working.
-
Or just be pro life and realize that more than 45 million unborn children were murdered since Roe v. Wade. Imagine all of those lives that were denied.

Let's go bitch. Think of all the serial killers, rapists, murderers, bombers, terrorists, and thieves who weren't born who were denied the chance to -blam!- up your life today. You're welcome.

Seriously, -blam!- the abstinence program. I barely know anything about sex outside of the few things I've discovered myself outside of "sex can lead to a baby, DON'T HAVE IT!"
-
I don't care about unfulfilled potential, I care about conscious creatures and creatures with experience and memory. Seeing pets being treated cruelly and killed by their owners disturbs me much, much more than the thought that some imaginary people aren't coming into existence. And the more people coming onto this planet, the more people treat the other creatures who inhabit the planet with us horribly in favor of humans.
-
Great post. I for one have never understood the level of selfishness exhibited by those who practice abstinence. How can one morally justify not giving life a chance to occur? The rationalizations I've heard are generally callous and self-serving, revolving around some combination of convenience and economics. How shameful.
-
Yeah, you're right. Those women need to stop getting horribly -blam!- and traumatized.
-
When in doubt, pull out!
-
My daughter is going to be the best everything
-
I will happily say no to abstinence, with a solid maybe towards contraception. I -blam!-ing hate condoms.
-
So we should keep reproducing? Is that the answer?
-
Ew. I never want kids, they're a bundle and 18 years worth of pain and misery.
-
daz, could you link that video again? I can't find it. Please and thank you. Until he gets here: abortion reduces crime. People who get abortions usually have pretty legitimate reasons for it. Whether they'd be economically devastated by the situation, it was an accident, they were -blam!-, etc., the would-be person most likely would not have had the most stellar upbringing conducive to being an intelligent, successful, productive member of society. Basically, the idea that potential "world-class athletes, musicians, actors, doctors, scientists, and inventors" are the majority, or even a considerably-sized minority of those non-people who never come to be is just not logically sound.

Clever...
