platoon, and apocalypse now, and full metal jacket are some of the best 80's movie of all time.

Some of? I can agree with that. But there are/were a lot of excellent movies in all sorts of genres in that decade. Blade Runner Ferris Bueller's Day Off are two that I would watch before any of those 3. And I am a HUGE fan of Kubrick.
