As most of you probably have seen from the concept artwork, there are spaceships in Destiny, at least in the background or in cut-scenes. This, combined with the fun space-combat-"experiment" in Halo:reach, combined with Bungie employers playing Artemis bridge commander during lunch breaks, plus Bungie tweeting about a kerbal space program livestream, makes me believe really, really strongly that Destiny has space combat. Am I too easily giving in to my own conspiracy theory, or does it sound plausible?
And, if plausible, how big do you guys think the space combat focus will be?

there wont be space combat or flight , and I for one ( im going to get chewed out for this ) don't think there should , it will be too much of a distraction from the ground combat , and as for space flight , I can just see some idiot managing to get lost and fly around aimlessly ...
-
In atmosphere ship to ship combat, I would think. Like an op to take out the fallen ship at e3.
-
Nope. It was confirmed in an interview.

Edited by MJ Rookie: 11/4/2013 11:04:33 PMShort answer. None. There will be no space combat as the information stands for now... All our bubbles were sorta pushed... Edit: I just realized this forum thread was posted a while ago... Yet still replied on... Misleading.

None been announced IGN interview

This much

I am pretty sure I've heard bungie dying they've considered it. And also, since so many of our community wants it, there would be almost no way they wouldn't add it. But if adding space combat uses up too much resources, I wouldn't really mind as long as the game was REALLY good.
-
I believe that it it plausible but do not expect it for they haven't said space and combat in the same sentence yet. Are you on to something? I hope so cause that'd be so awesome. I love the whole space combat idea and I hope that it does focus on that some
-
I just realized something! Some of the many locations in Destiny are going to be "derelict spaceships", and as such, what better way to approach such a site that most likely has hostiles in or surrounding it, than in a player controlled craft?
-
None Won't be until subsequent titles.
-
This much.

I really hope there'll be a fair bit of ship to ship combat, from dogfighting to boarding raids on large enemy ships. That said I could understand if Bungie play it "safe" and focus on the standard FPS combat at first.
-
I could be wrong but I remember hearing one of the Devs saying that they really wanna stress that this is a FPS and that space ship fighting will probably not be implemented. But, I could be wrong.
-
I believe that space combat in Reach was an exclusive sneak preview to what we might see in Destiny, besides I really don't think we would have the ability to customize or ships just to see them in cut scenes :p haha
-
As I recall, Bungie explicitly stated at games com that space combat and ship customisation would be heavily featured. " When discussing spaceships in Destiny, Joe Staten explained that because Jason Jones was a higher-level player, he had access to better gear, including an impressive sleek, black spaceship that makes Staten’s smaller, simpler vessel look like, in his own joking words, a “Space Corolla"." Ships also come in classes - only the 'scout' class has been named as yet.
-
With how important ships are shaping up to be in the game, there had better be some space combat, if not part of the main story, but part of the side missions like strikes, or as a PvP arena.
-
-
Huge! And why would we be able to customize our ships??
-
FF to about 3:15. Interviewer: We see some new players dropping into the battle from their ships. And I know that the players can have their own ships, and collect them, like mounts in roll playing games. But can they actually fly them in the full game? Chris Butcher (Bungie): So, in Destiny, we travel all over the solar system. We travel from Earth to the lost golden age colonies on Mars and Venus and other different places, and you're traveling in your personal spaceship. But the game is about the first person shooter element. It's not a space combat simulator, I'm sorry to say.
-
It would be so cool to have like your ship fight against a fallen ship in space
-
I really hope so. I grew up playing StarFox 64 and no one seems to have done it as good ever since. Halo 4 was close (even if is made by 343 not Bungie) it was a step in the right direction. If Destiny doesn't include it, then it will be a wasted opportunity (like Mass Effect)
-
I want.
-
Your theory sounds plausible. Honestly I'm 75% sure that space combat will be something in destiny. I think that bungie saying that destiny is not a space sim is an attempt at lowering our expectations and truthfully, I think we should. I bet it's going to be very minimalistic and simple. We should not expect more than a little shooting and dodging.
-
It would be interesting if there was a little bit, but not too much.
-
Most likely limited if it's in the game at all, at least at launch. They've already stated that Destiny is not a space combat simulator and that they wanted to make that clear. Although I'm sure if that's the majority opinion for what players want they'd reconsider.
