Defense of Marriage Act, if you're bad with acronyms.
>Cue the budget-conscious Republicans on Capitol Hill, who authorized the spending of up to $2.75 million in public funds to hire lawyers to defend DOMA on their behalf. Apparently, that was not a big enough check, so on Jan. 4, the House Republicans raised the fee ceiling to $3 million.
Also, Every time stricter gun laws are proposed, Republicans cry foul and invoke the second amendment and constitutional rights. But they defend laws like the Defense of Marriage Act, which denies equal rights to a minority - rights that are guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution. Gotta love how the Republicans will only defend some rights, you know?
Oh Shit Republicans what are you doing.
-
There is a difference between Homophobia( Fear of Homosexuals ) and Anti-Gay.
-
When will the GOP realize they need to not be the party against civil rights, women, and minorities in order to stay relevant?
-
This thread shows why I -blam!-ing hate American politics. It just turns it a debate of "At least my party does/doesn't do X!" Sometimes I wish they would just be abolished, might encourage some free thinking instead of people trying to defend the blatant flaws of "their" party like its actually themselves.
-
Notice how they still manage to get things done unlike the democrats.
-
So... Guns under fire, they whine. Yet, they don't want equal rights? Hoo, I thought the 1960's were over. I guess I was wrong.
-
Aren't Republicans that troll group in America?
-
I can't see through all these biased and one-sided words, what's going on guys?
-
And Obama's trying to write executive orders for ridiculous gun control. It sounds to me like they're both bad.
-
Oh please. Like Democrats don't do the same things defending their own issues.
-
We pay Congressman too much money.
-
Not to ignite a terrible hell-fire of arguments and rage, I'll just say that us Canadians (at least the people I talk to here in BC) are confused by American politics sometimes. Seriously, guys. You should take after your northern neighbours and have boring politics. The only interesting political scandal of late was what, the thing with the new fighter jets being too expensive or something?

-
On one side; 3 million dollars isn't squat in our economy. Otherside; DOMA is bad and needs to be repealed. I am for same-sex marriage.
-
Surprise level: 0 We all know that the GOP is not the party of civil rights.
-
Edited by Vgnut: 1/16/2013 4:50:58 PMGenius. Reinforce the GOP as the party of gay bashers in an America where the majority and growing support gay marriage and on top of that the image of hypocrites when it comes to fiscal responsibility. One of the downsides to the 2012 election was that the Republicans weren't slaughtered enough. The GOP needs to be brought to its knees so it can reinvent itself as a respectable and competitive party. Right now it's rightfully the party of stupid and that's not good for the health of the United States.
-
There are democrats that are the same way though. A small minority of democrats... Still, I hate the senate and congress. They are a bunch of jackwagons screwing everyone but themselves over.
-
So it's the... DODOMA. Not to be confused with an extinct bird or cellist.
-
It doesnt deny any rights to any minority. Marriage isnt a right, its a privilege.

rich bigots defending rich bigots. what else is new?
