I need help, I don't have the dlc to get pathfinder nodes to level up. I'm soft lock, do I have to buy dlc?

Work through the new light quests, at a point during it you'll need to speak to multiple vendors in the tower (drifter/shaxx/zavala etc) as they'll be offering more quests and it should unlock Pathfinder at that point. You may need to use an alternate character to do so.
