PvP feels really bad to play right now (6v6)

I've been playing a lot of PvP (6v6 Control) recently and I wanted to share my thoughts because it's rough right now. There's a lot of problems making it feel really frustrating and not enjoyable. Note: This post has nothing to do with gun/ability balance. 1. Matchmaking/Lobby Balance I don't know the specifics of whatever version of Snake Draft the PvP Strike Team is using, but it's not it. A lot of the matches I go into end up feeling lopsided. I don't have any proposed solutions here, but anecdotally the lobby balancing doesn't feel good. 2. Spawns This is probably the most frustrating thing for me. A lot of the time, the spawns just bug out and you end up spawning in the same place for the entire match. This ends up with one team spawn-trapping and spawn-camping the other. Hey PvP Strike Team, getting spawn trapped for an entire match isn't fun. It's almost as bad as Crucible a few seasons ago when the spawns were really bad and you would spawn in front of enemies and instantly get spawn killed. 3. Mercy This is where I think the PvP Strike team is missing the forest for the trees. They recently talked about how they've lowered the number of games going to a mercy by increasing the score limit for triggering mercy rules (in patch 8.1.0.4: "Control, Iron Banner Control, Iron Banner Eruption, Supremacy - 60 to 70."). Here's the problem: With the new score limits, there's now a lot of games that end up with 50 or 60 point differentials that never go to a mercy. A lot of matches end up with final scores of 150-100 or 150-90, which just isn't enjoyable, ESPECIALLY with the scuffed matchmaking and bugged spawns. It all just contributes to one team snow-balling. In my mind, games like that probably should have gone to mercy earlier in the match. If one team starts to spawn-trap and get a 90-30 lead early in the match, that's just not fun to play out. Trying to mount a comeback against a -50 or -60 point differential MIGHT be reasonable IF the lobby balance was better and IF the spawn system wasn't messed up, but right now it's not reasonable. 4. Leaving This is more of a symptom of the other issues, but it's worth mentioning. Improve the lobby balancing and improve the spawn system, and less people would leave. Those are the biggest frustrations I've noticed recently. Have you guys felt this? I'm curious if others are finding 6v6 bad to play right now.

  • Fully agree and the long range meta Bungie keeps promoting does not help matters. It just makes it even more tedious to play. The buff to 120s is nice but it won't change the fact that everyone is engaging from the back of the map.. only now there might be the occasional 120 in the sea of pulses and scouts. Another pain point is getting loaded into already lost matches. I literally just got thrown into an ongoing match and spawned in in time to see the loss screen. Yeah, that's really fun. Joining late is never great but late enough to just experience the mercy feels like Bungie doing their best to keep that 50/50 WL rate going. Idk why they decided that their new snake draft they used in control is good (latest twab). I have no idea what the numbers they presented are supposed to mirror but they sure do not mirror my experience which is increasingly bad since they implemented the new draft. I shudder to think what will happen to comp since they want to put it in there, too, even though the current lobby balancing is already pretty lopsided... on top of that the point system is still rediculously broken since they "fixed" it. I don't care that they plan to pull aside the curtain to tell us about their player skill parameters. They clearly don't work. Imo the best approach would be to bring CBMM back in qp and use pure rank for comp mm, no hidden mmr and whatever else they implement. At this point it does no even feel like SBMM anymore but like EOMM like in CoD.... not good for anyone but Bungie's spread sheet numbers and their pocketbook.

  • I played 6 Control matches today and the apparent nerfs to Prismatic Hunters are, well, ineffective to say the least. Oh and Rose + Elsie's all over the shop. Good thing though was that Prismatic Hunters were less frequently in opposition. However the same old damage registration issues/lag/ximmers/Cronus users abound. Nothing much has changed IMO, apart from an increase in Stasis users but that's really about it.

      It’s simple. Bungie forces you into a 50/50 win loss. This is well known and is one of the reasons for such a drastic drop off in PvP.

    • I just had one of those non mercy matches and those can be pretty monotonous. After a certain point it can start to feel like the goal is just to make the match last the whole time limit.

      • One of the things that still get me, which ties mostly into spawns, A lot of these maps were designed as 4v4 at d2 launch. And it was terrible. But to appease the players they went back to 6v6 as d1 was....with no changes to the map sizes. I know you mentioned not wanting to go into abilties in pvp but its still a huge factor. We are faster and stronger than ever. Skating, hunter dodging, grapple, titan melees, icaris(?) Dash, super teleporting/flying. Not saying these are bad things but the maps just don't accommodate that much ability movement with 12 players. And the larger maps that do exist are either mostly trash or still sitting in the content vault.

      • Control is the last mode left that people are playing now . PvP will die off eventually. Everyone ones knows by now what state PvP is in . Not sure what the die hard control addicts are going to do 😂

          It's felt bad for a few years and I hope people don't believe Bungie when they say that they have a PVP strike team..just like they don't have battleye in comp or trials

          I honestly avoid 6v6 like the plague due to the teamshooting and people holding hands and the fact the current meta with people sat in the back with pulses makes it kinda unfun rn. Which is why I stick to rumble

Life was chill and fun back then. All this lobby balancing and mm made the game play so much worse then it use too.

          • You can’t blame the pvp strike team or the way game has turned out. It’s simply a by product of the attention and combination of where bungie is taken destiny. To add to your why is everything bad atm. It’s realy simple it has all to do with these 2 factors. Player population and sbmm. First let’s talk bungie sbmm When you look at websites like trials report you will notis bungie cr score at the top left of the player you are searching, this is bungie combat rating. The magic score they give players on how good someone is. And when you look at destinytracker you often see matches outcome due to ELO score and according to those numbers sometimes games are 75% in order for one team to win. You especially see this when you look trials it can be extremely in favorite of one team to win. This do to no sbmm and the piramide system to get 7 wins. Now bungie match players on this cr score in controle or other sbmm playlist and they try to make the match outcome as close as possible I believe there words where as close as they can get to 10 points difference. When you look at the website DestinyKd.Com You see how the mm works and that bungie is actually realy good in placing players in brackets and matching eachother. Just saying that there mm works accordingly to the cr score they give players. The issue here are 2 things, there cr score is almost set in stone. For example if you’re account is from 2014 you are prbly at the same cr score you where back then. Doenst matter if you have improved or got worse. You will be mm at the lvl you once had. This is bungie first issue. This number often doenst reflect a current players skill but there once had skill. The results is that outliers go under there radar and this results in more mis match then bungie wants. Also when bungie has a outlire in there mm someone with a high cr score and this person has slight indication that he is expected to carry a team this person might leave due to not having fun. It can be extremely frustrating as a good player to get mm with bad players on your team. But when this players leave this will automatically result into a mercy because the whole match is is based around this player. Now let’s talk about population it’s no secret that bungie player PvP retention is getting lower and lower. What ofcourse is logical. This because PvP is secondary in this game. Ever since forsaken. Bungie has stopt investing in PvP because PvP is not monitazible so there is no reveue steam there so bungie is oke with there and player population dropping as long is pve is giving Pete his new cars. The following reaction is these problems stack on eachother resulting in your bad experience. Now after all this what is the solution. There is non. Bungie has learned there lesson about investing into PvP with destiny. So they prbly will accept that this is the future of PvP untill the experience is so bad they will give it the gambit treatment. Probably and this is a educated guess untill marathon comes out. That Might totally flop they will prbly return to see destiny as there cash cow and improve on the core player experience but untill then. I feel you’re pain. I would say we have about a year left untill trials gets canceled and then we had a good run.

            • Bungie doesn’t care anymore. They know this game is dead. How many posts every week about how bad and broken PvP is? I’m tempted to post them myself, but why waste the effort? They are horrible at their job, or they just don’t care. Either way, these posts don’t make a difference.

            • I mean every time we log in something else has been nerfed. Of course it feels awful. Think of something you enjoyed more than anything in pvp at one point. I’d bet large amounts of money it’s been nerfed at least once. Or is going to with this next update. Prismatic abilities will legit take over a minute to come back with max investment. I’d love to see a tier 0 😂 it might not even get a second grenade 😂

            • Joined a game in the course during weekend. Javelin. I was #4 in my team vs a team of 3 at the other side who still destroyed my team (I am pretty sure one was cheating but of course can't prove). Anyway, endured it for some while before I left myself and got a time out. Symptoms.
