Currently, PvP as a whole is in a bad spot, alienating both new and veteran players due to awful matchmaking, in-match experiences, and slow updates that most of the time don't move the needle or enforce an opressive / boring meta to be the rule. At this moment, the main issues:
- There are no incentives to keep playing an unfavorable match, due to join in-progress on a losing side or allies leaving the match. You feel forced to play a match you know you won't win because if you leave then you will get penalized for it.
- High-ground perk is too opressive, specially in game modes focused on zones and rounds, granting a better advantage to a team per round or zone.
- Pulse rifles as a whole are not fun to play against. Pair them with a shotgun and you can have duels in all ranges effectively.
- Melees not connecting are still a pain point, specially while using shoulder charges or shiver strike, granting extreme risk with no reward if they not connect with the desired target.
- Smoke bomb is still too opressive: it can slow, blind, weaken and allows radar manipulation. Those are 4 key utilities on 1 single ability.
- Diamond lances are too powerful: the freeze hitbox is too big and it is easy to create one due to Knockout aspect. Also, the current combo (lance throw from aire + slam to get closer to target) allows no counterplay for it.
Hopefully we have some of these fixed soon.

Feel PvP is the best it’s been in a long time

Edited by DooWork96: 11/8/2024 4:17:19 AMThink we should add storms edge to the list. 8:20 super for a shut down or team wipe super. This needs to be nerfed hard with either an increase in cool down or the some adjustments to hit registration . I can’t tell you how many times I’ve clearly been behind cover and still get hit. Moral of the story: bungie clearly didn’t play test this super, and it needs a hard nerf. It’s not okay as it is.

If this is really supposed to be the matchmaking then its abominable.

There are several problems with comp, all centered around what I feel is the annoying 50/50 approach and matchmaking. The problem is that as a player that focuses on PvP and it's the part of the game that I enjoy the most, the game is actively working against you. There is no incentive to get better, because you are just rewarded with games trying to carry people that doesn't focus on PvP... Then to add insult to injury the points system is f-ed. You can have people leave on your team and still be punished with 100+ points. If you then win you get like 15... There are crazy loss streaks where every game it's either someone leaving, or just standing still, or a teammate of inspecting the map geometry. 1) Please reward investing in PvP, the higher skill should be above 50/50, figure it out so that it feels rewarding to play PvP. 2) Please reward skill in play style, i.e. movement, precision gunplay, map awareness and such. Current spray and pray together with abilities is too easy. 3) Connections... It's disheartening with ghost bullets or kills registering 5 seconds later... 4) Matchmaking is broken. We don't mind losing to a better team it happens, but losing cause you got handed two hard carries is not fun.

Smoke and lance are fine, its so rare that they actually do anything especially given lance requires a kill first and smoke barely lingers on the map. I agree that high ground is BS and pulses are boring and annoying but its worse with a fusion.

Got to agree with Smoke Bomb, it's got the most utility rich features in a Melee, possibly out of any Ability when I think about it. It only just dawned on me that you can Slow, Weaken, Manipulate Radar, Blind and if on Prismatic you can proc Radiant. Thats an insane amount of utility all on one melee.
-
you forgot that smoke bomb can give you radiant on prismatic looool
-
As you mentioned with smoke bombs and diamond lance, abilities do to many things at once and are too powerful.
-
You're over thinking it.
-
Smoke bomb is overrated
-
I disagree with all of these. I hope none of them are changed. They arent broken. They dont need to be fixed.
-
Agree with everything except the high ground perk. I’m a fan of it as is.

Let's not forget the increasingly bad connection quality. Bungie's so determined any new light will know what they died to - to the point of nerfing snipers into the ground. Yet it's apparently perfectly fine for people to just apparate like we're in the Harry Potter universe, teleport everywhere while meleeing and generally ohk you with weapons that should not do that while not even looking at you. Great experience... especially when you get a penalty for leaving such a poorly made match.
