Personal Issues With This Modifier:
1. it practically enforces ranged builds, since the fake drops automatically explode while in close proximity of the enemies that drop them
2. the fake explosives nearly kill players with just one hit in close range, and are dropped by almost every enemy. Sometimes multiple can be dropped by a single enemy
3. it can be hard to detect the fakes until you are right next to them, unless you are meticulously checking indicators such as no light streak on ammo drops, and the blue glow. Additionally, ammo drops (the most common fakes) are almost entirely black in color, and easily blend in with most environments and enemy corpses
In my experience, this modifier only hinders gameplay and otherwise isn't very interesting or challenging.
Suggestion:
Rather than every fake drop simply being a mini Screeb, I suggest that collecting them gives adverse effects instead, here are a few examples:
Negative Effects
• Armor Degradation; +25% damage taken
• Weapon Jamming; -30% reload speed and fire rate (slower guard charge rate and swing speed / charge time for other weapon types)
• Light Eater; -50% ability (grenade and melee) damage and super charge rate
• Life Drain; slowly drains health and shields over time, land kills to pause the drain
Positive Effects
• Fortified Defenses; +35% flinch and damage resistance, negates knockback and slow effects
• Tracker Enhance; gain truesight and increased radar range and resolution
• Slice and Dice; +100% melee and melee weapon damage, regenerate sword ammo on hit
• Eruption; +200% ability and super charge rate
Just so these aren't completely random, I would say have the negative drops glow red to warn players, while the positive drops retain the blue glow. These effects should last from 10-30s, with the ability to stack

I have been playing titan on gm with this modifier active and it’s not that big of an issue. Most times it does little to no damage because you have time to get out the way. You can literally just shoot the bricks and they will explode too.
