How do you get more tonic recipes?
I've already finished Act 1 (which was concerningly short). But how do i gain more tonic recipes beyond the starting 7?

Keep brewing Tonics. After you brew enough copies of a given Tonic, you will unlock the ability to start brewing an upgraded version. This will in turn allow you to access Eido’s Fieldwork Quests. (΄◉◞౪◟◉｀)
