Seasonal weapons will no longer be craftable as of Revenant. This is to fix a loot-grind issue where folks log in get their Red borders and leave when they have their 1 crafted copy.
I have an idea that leaves that entire system in place and recommend continuing to push red borders into dungeons and raids and continuing to allow enhanced perks across most weapons.
And it boils down to Fashion and Function.
[b]1. Shinies.[/b] A unique effect for seasonal, raid, and dungeon weapons. But, this effect cannot be gotten on the crafted version. I even believe that [u]seasonal[/u] weapons in particular should have the time limit of their season to get their shiny.
What does this accomplish? Players who invest can always make the loot they wanted. But those -blam!- committed to find their god roll will have a flashy extra effect to brag about.
[b]2. Origin Traits.[/b] There are a lot of seasonal weapons that are reskins of old ones. Hot topic amongst the community, but not a problem in my book as we continue to get interesting origin traits. On that note...I think seasonal weapons dropped (not crafted) should have both the seasonal trait and their foundry trait.
Why not crafted? Because the crafted version of our weapons are forged of memories (loooore) of the seasons, why would it have the 'mundane' origin trait when our memory is that of the unique events?
This means, if you go farm in a season to get a god roll, you have one that stands out visibly in your vault and has that tad bit of extra versatility for when you don't want to dump radiolaria all over the ground or crouch to get a head rush every rocket fired. A badge of pride with a bit of function to it.
Meanwhile, crafted weapons remain a way to get everything you want a season and sparing you the vault space for when you come back to it.
Raid and Dungeon effects should be awesome and can be added alongside these reprisals one at a time until they're caught up.
I'd be curious to see a practical test of this (1-2 seasons/episodes) before a dialing back of a different kind of loot chase. I'm almost positive there would be the increase in participation Bungie is looking for.
Extra note: I do not believe holiday ornaments should be removed from crafted weapons either, as that is a different thing entirely to farm for and earn.
TLDR; Give Seasonal (/raid/dungeon) [u]Drops[/u] options between origin traits and a shiny effect and don't cut back on crafting.
