So recently I was doing vanguard ops (for the tedious “Legend” title) and I came across The Insight Terminus. Now most people, including myself, have probably forgot this strike even existed. It’s so old it still has references to when Cayde-6 got stuck in a Vex teleporter. Anyways- That’s not our point. At the end of the strike your ghost will have dialogue with Zavala mentioning that someone by the name of “MSund12” went through the Vex archives on Nessus, and what they were looking for (and who they were) is unknown to us. Zavala tells you and your ghost there are more important matters and it will be looked upon later. It was never once touched after that…
Upon Lightfall release we learn of Maya Sundaresh and her Wife. Maya grew an unhealthy obsession with the veil to the point that a voice we assume of as the witness speaks to her. She goes all crazy and runs a bunch of tests, kills a lot of people, makes an exo clone, etc. After all of this though she kinda is just shoved off of the story and forgotten.
Now we reach Episode: Echoes. We learn that Maya wants to bring a golden age and uses the echo to find a Chioma (her wife) that will have full blind faith in Maya’s actions. She ultimately fails and we send her running in a very underwhelming cutscene at the end of the episode. The reason why this is important though is because of the way she would search for Chioma. Maya would use the one thing she had access to, which was of course, the Nessus Vex Archives. The exact same thing that MSund12 was tapping into all those years ago…
Now there are a few things that can contradict this theory. For instance, we still don’t know who or what Oxa/Otzot is (an alternate voice line from the MSund12 one) and on top of that, I’m still trying to debate on the timelines that these events would have happened between. We don’t know how long Maya had been searching for Chioma and we don’t know if she needed the echo to do that.
Anyways- just thought I’d point this out to y’all to see what you think! I’ve always wondered who the so called “MSund12” was and only now am I putting a theory together. Tell me what y’all think and or if I missed anything! Later Guardians :)

Fascinating stuff! 🤔 The one puzzle in this strike that I’ve not yet solved is the location of the object my ghost (Murphy) keeps alerting me too…ie, in the section where one has to cross the chasm, on the other side, is a tanky boss, and a squad of psions and space rhinos. Once dealt with, Murphy (👻) alerts to an object that needs investigation…once investigated, it should bleep no more!? Just like all the other ‘alerts’ from way back, eg, ‘find the crew’ alerts on Nessus, near Failsafe’s ship. Back to the chasm, and the alert area just below and to the right of where the boss stands - as seen from where one enters the area on the opposite side of the chasm… Whenever I’ve done this strike, I search high and low to try find the object, as Murphy (👻) keeps bleeping…but have never been able to find it?! 🧐 It might well be a glitch…as I’m pretty sure I’d have found it way back when…but it’s one of those little things that grates…but only just a little! 😵💫😁 That’s all! Ease Springs! 🫡

.....bruh yes Maya is Msun12.

Yes, I had always wondered about Otzot and Msund12 and I love how Bungie planted those seeds all those years ago. Then I recently notice in the exotic mission halfway through or so at the cannon lift transversal section text appears Msund12 is connecting.. that’s when I clued into it! So cool!!!

in other news water is wet

Yes... one of the forks.

Edited by Kiro - 13: 10/3/2024 3:47:48 PMOxa is the Oxa Engine, future telling device. Otzot was a scion was the creator/curator of the Oxa Engine. From all accounts it is similar to the mind forking device used by the FWC.

I’m genuinely happy you and others continue to find passion and excitement for the story. I wish I was too.

Msund12 would have been a simulated copy of Maya, not the original. In lore the copies have numbers attached to them, to distinguish them obviously. I believe the format was 1234.567 or something like that. Was in a lore entry about a group of them interacting with Praedyth back in Shadowkeep? Anywho Good work Guardian!

Osiris theorises that perhaps the Conductor is made up of more than one Maya, which would explain why she uses the MSund12 designation during Encore when connecting to us and yet is the same flesh and blood Maya who landed on Neomuna and experimented with the Veil.

This has been theorized and basically confirmed for a while now. A lot of people basically right when that strike came out made the connection between "msund" and "maya sundaresh," and in the margins right beneath your radar during some activities from this season it says "Msund12 connected" shortly before sharing dialogue that is very clearly from the conductor's perspective.
-
Just shows how long they’ve been sitting on this - even though whatever original idea they had for her was probably better, lol.
-
It is Maya. The real implication is that if MSund12 created the cloud arc and is the Conductor then is it actually one of the vex copies of Maya (Maya Sunderesh 12) or the original Maya (who she thinks she is).

Yes it is… great to see another budding lore scholar on the forums :)

Edited by DarthWolfric: 10/3/2024 1:34:03 AMYeah, it is Sundaresh. OXA is a prediction engine and Otzot is a Psion Flayer.

I realized that, too. The Encore mission even mentions MSund12.
