Firstly, my heart goes out to all those affected by the layoffs. Your hard work will always and forever be appreciated by those who love this game. This will be little consolation but just know you are not at fault for what has transpired. The last 72 hours has been a complete shitshow for Bungie exec’s and Pete Parson especially. However, what if this is all part of Sony’s plan? Tinfoil hats guys and girls. This one’s out there… Sony’s plan for Destiny transcends just the game. Sony offered what they did for Bungie because they knew the Bungie exec’s would take the money and burn through it. They knew they would overextend and back themselves into a corner. They knew they would agree to targets that would appear obtainable but remain just out of reach. They knew they would take the steps they have these past few days. They knew Bungie would take all the backlash in the short term. Sony sound like the villains at this point in this story but what if there was a silver lining to the catastrophe? The reductions in staffing and the re-focusing of resources results in an upturn in quality coming out for Destiny. Marathon however, launches but fails to live up to expectation resulting in missed targets and ultimately shutdown. This triggers a full Sony takeover. Bungie is integrated into Sony keeping all staff. All Bungie exec’s are replaced with the best of the best in the industry. Bungie’s soul purpose is to deliver the highest quality content and insure Destiny’s continued success. No expense is spared to achieve this. This is the real reason why Sony paid what they paid for Bungie. They have exclusive access the the utter wealth of content which is the Destiny Universe! There will be spin-off games. Comics. Anime. TV series. Films. You name it. A true modern day Marvel-esque, endless stream of income from the infinite stories that have been and are yet to be told. The price paid will be a fraction of what they will receive in the decades that follow because the Destiny community will eat up all that content. These are my thoughts, what are yours???
