Safe (fan lore)

Here's a lil story I wrote for someone who sent a request over on Tumblr :)) I love these two so much, and writing about them is always so fun XD When Eris Morn transmatted aboard the Derelict it was quiet, empty. The faint light of the dissipating Motes scattered across the metal grated floor helped to illuminate the dark room, along with orange lanterns hung along the walls and one set atop a nearby table. "Drifter?" Eris called, her three glowing eyes glaring against the darkness. "Eris?" She heard a gravelly voice call from a nearby room. The sound of footsteps against metal grates could be heard approaching as the Drifter entered the room, a surprised expression across his face. "Hey, Moondust!" He greeted with a smile. "Didn't expect to see you here." "I wished to speak with you." Eris explained. The Drifter raised an eyebrow. "Yeah? Well if your comin' to see me so late it must be somethin' pretty important, huh? You wanna sit down?" He asked, pulling out a chair from beside the rickety table. "No, thank you." Eris replied stiffly. "Alright, this is a standin' conversation, got it." he nodded, leaning against the metal table. "So, what's up?" Eris stood there, staring into the Drifter's eyes, struggling to find the words she wanted to say. "Okay, different question." The Drifter started, pushing himself off the table and taking several steps towards Eris. "How bad is it?" "It's not bad," Eris was finally able to speak. "It is merely that the words are... difficult to find." "Okay..." he squinted at her. "Y'sure this ain't a sittin' down conversation?" "I would prefer to remain standing." A minute of silence passed them by before Eris spoke again. "I wished to admit something to you, Drifter." She cleared her throat, hoping to get rid of the unusual quiver in her voice. "I have, for so long, attempted to hide and suppress my emotions pertaining to a particular matter. I was sure they would be weak, fleeting. But... I do not believe that now." "I'm listenin'" the Drifter replied earnestly. "I wished to tell you," she fumbled over herself for a moment before continuing. "I have found that I... I care for you. Deeply. More than I ever have for any other. It is a... strange and unusual feeling in my heart." Her three eyed gaze remained on the grated floor. "What I mean to say is," she took in a quick breath. "I love you, Germaine." She couldn't bring herself to meet his eyes. For the first time, Eris Morn appeared to be timid, bashful. "If I have made a mistake in admitting this to you, please allow us to move on and leave this moment buried behind us." Eris spoke solemnly, not finding the Drifter's silence very reassuring, afraid she had mistaken the situation between the two of them. Eris raised her head, attempting to discern the emotion behind the Drifter's eyes as he walked up to her. He brought his trembling finger to her chin, keeping her looking at him. He hardly gave Eris a moment to figure out what he was about to do before he pressed his face against hers, forcing their lips to meet in a gentle kiss. They stayed that way for a second longer, feeling time freeze around them as they tested the moment and the touch, attempting to figure out where it would lead. Finally Drifter pulled away, observing Eris's face as she reached up to brush her fingers against the small smile on her lips. The Drifter smiled coyly in return, reaching out and slowly sliding his arms around Eris's waist. When she didn't push him away, he proceeded to pull her to his chest, nuzzling his face against the black tears which flowed slowly down her cheek, sucking in a shivering breath as his nose filled with her scent. "You... feel the same?" Eris finally managed to breath out. "Yeah, Moondust..." he murmured, cuddling further into her. "I do." Eris sighed against the warmth of his shoulder. "I am so tired, Germaine..." She admitted quietly. "Close your eyes, Moondust." The Drifter replied softly, his voice warm and caring. "I've got you." Eris considered his offer for a moment before finally accepting, burying her face into his neck and allowing herself to fully trust and lean on him. Eris Morn was happy, safe. Safe in the arms of the man she held dear. The man she would trust and depend on with her life. And with that thought, she drifted off to sleep in his arms.
