Stasis titan is frozen after the buffs?

Hey everyone. I want to talk about stasis titan because originally I was beyond excited to see what the new rework would bring. Unfortunately I now know it is the worst class in the game by far. To summarize what I will write below I'm going to talk about three things. The changes, why they do not work, and what can be done to bring stasis titan back in its own unique kind of way. Also I hope this is not too negative, making a game that requires proper balancing is hard and sometimes people like me are too critical. Sorry if in advance if I am. The changes can be summarized pretty quick: 1. A stasis fragment that gave damage reduction was changed into a new key word, frost armor. This looks great on paper because the fragment that was removed only provided damage resist while near a frozen target or stasis crystal. Frost armor looks to be a more mobile version of that while not taking a fragment slot 2. All of the Harvest mods were reworked to fit the new keyword. Over shields granted by stasis shards are replaced with healing 3. A good amount of fragments were updated for this change as they would either become redundant or needed to conform to this new system. Seems like a good thing right! Wrong, it turns out all of these changes are direct down grade of their original iterations. Lets start with frost armor, It just feels bad to use. It is very hard to keep the stacks of it high enough to match the original damage resist given by the old fragment and it requires a new fragment to even stack that high. RIP that freed up slot. For context, the stacks have a max of 8 with the fragment and give 4.5 per stack totaling out at 36 percent. Woven mail which is much easier to access and up keep is 45 percent... The next change makes things even worse for the stasis titan frost armor dream, the new tectonic harvest. It now has a cool down after you generate 6 stasis crystals. That is rough but the cooldown being 10 seconds is worse. I don't know if I can use words to describe how awful that is. The old one was not overpowered by any means and it was straight up infinite. As long as you had crystals to break you had sustain but now I honestly can not tell whether I will get them or not in the heat of the moment. Speaking of sustain, they made stasis shards do pity healing. Like actually not even a noticeable amount. Lastly, the nail in the coffin. The new fragments suck. They even suck at sucking unlike unbreakable which has a little spice. It feels like these new fragments were designed in a day and play tested just to see if they function. Each fragment probably has one third of the text of a prismatic fragment and defiantly one fourth the potency, excluding the grenade ones. I honest to god think It was a rushed out change to consolidate stasis into a package so that prismatic could use it. There is no shame in that, It is understandable that something had to take the fall so prismatic could fly. But now you have to fix it, which leads us out of the doom and gloom section of this. So fixing something is a lot easier said than done but I have a few ideas that probably are not the solution, but would help in a "think tank" type of discussion. I will also try to put the more grounded changes towards top and not all of these have to happen to make the class fun to play. I would just like to float different ideas. And before I say anything else these only apply to pve, stasis titan 3 stacking in pvp is not a fun experience and should be frowned upon lmao. 1. Free tectonic harvest. These are not ionic traces they do not need a limiting cooldown. On that note some of the prismatic fragments and the seasonal mod ignore this cooldown already so I do not think it would be broken. Keep in mind tectonic harvest gives two fragment slots, the same amount devoir gives. 2. Frost armor needs a buff. In this department you could just buff the amount of damage resist or the timer till it expires but I personally would look to make frost armor something entirely unique. It could give upwards of 70 percent damage resist but a stack falls off every time you are hit. It could be some type of wound closure resembling the effect the old stasis shards gave. It could be when you are near stasis crystals you build it for free. Anything more fun than its current pain inducing iteration. 3. Aspects are the building blocks of a build. First, I love how effective the stasis titan aspects can be even though they look simple. Unfortuanly it falls flat when they stop being effective and are just minor impacts on gameplay. Diamond lance and tectonic harvest are the best when build crafting but the problem is that without them you desperately feel the opportunity cost of not running them. The others in a build are not strong enough to be a center piece. I do not even know their names and I have probably played 100 hours of stasis titan alone. They just feel like big fragments is my point. I would probably rework the sliding one into a fragment or give it a primary line of text because having the ability to pop your stasis walls on command is already free if you just shatter a frozen target. Howl of the storm(I think) is cool as hell but isn't even as good as something like consecration. I don't know how I would buff it honestly. My best attempt would be making an exotic around in like the stand combo of lash and leap. 4. The fragments need some consolidation. They just need more text, more things they can do in one or more power. For example void subclasses literally have a fragment that says "get the strongest key word in the game if you pick up an orb and this key word refreshes when ever you get a kill." Stasis has "melee hits slow enemies while you have frost armor." Its a bit of a power disparity in my eyes but that's fine if the class could do other things better. 5. New Mods. The current armor charge mods do not really work that well with stasis. From a design stand point they work the best with self sufficient builds in the form of surges for more weapon damage. They work well with High impact cooldowns which can be cheated out with kickstart and boot ability haste mods. And they do not add anything to stasis titan, which currently has fast cooldowns(thanks to fragments) but low to moderate impact abilities. It feels like a waste to run kickstart mods but at the same time the class is too weak to run surges. I would recommend a set of mods that works well with elemental pick ups but not as busted as the last time we had them around. It could go in a quirky route that upgrades frost armor or brings over shields back. 6. New stasis armor exotics. While I adore Hoarfrost its never felt worse. A new key armor exotic piece could break the ice when it comes to stasis titan because the current ones all have pretty bad downsides to them. Hoarfrost, while goated, requires up close in personal play, not that I mind that. Lance cap is a really campy play style and it is super vulnerable to get pushed off of your rally barricade. Icefall literally makes you burger walk everywhere. There is not that key defining exotic that makes me go "that's busted" or " this slaps" anymore, hoarfrost has been power crept. 7. A fast paced stasis exotic weapon. All of the stasis exotics except conditional finality(half solar btw) are pretty campy. They feel better on a warlock that can sit back and pick off frozen targets from a distance. While most of them synergize with stasis titan on paper it becomes more awkward the harder the content. The bow requires kills, The scout rifle is clunky in close quarters and requires sustained fire, the grenade launcher takes your heavy slot as an ad clearing tool. I would adore a smg, special ammo sword, secondary grenade launcher, or anything that thrives at closer ranges besides a shotgun. 8. More buffs or debuff key words. Slow is a fake keyword, lets be real. A chill clip anything can produce it for overload and that is its only use. Maybe a new stasis debuff like "freezing" that turns slow into an eventual full on freeze. Maybe something like strands unravel called frost blight. I would just love to see something like volatile or radiant but designed for the new stasis class. Well that concludes my very long rant. I hope someone finds this helpful and that bungie addresses stasis titan in the near future.
