I love the new exotic class items. I find checking the roll on every drop I get when running Dual Destiny or looting chests in the Pale Heart exciting once again. I've unlocked several unique rolls, but most of my drops are now duplicates. I decided to model the class item grind as a coupon collection problem, and I found that unlocking each unique roll will require, on average, acquiring the class item 303 times. If we assume it takes half an hour to earn a class item, then the average player will need to spend 151.5 hours grinding out the exotic class item.
The statistics I previously mentioned only look at the average case. To be 95% certain a player will unlock all class items, the player will need to get the class item to drop 453 times, requiring around 226.5 hours of grinding.
Most players, whether casual or dedicated, will not want to run Dual Destiny for 200+ hours, as much fun as that mission is. I'm not sure how the issue would be fixed, but I enjoyed the attunement feature that was introduced with Into the Light. Any level of duplicate protection should be considered.
