Because partner relationships in Destiny have historically been uncommon and without much detail to speak of....in context it's reasonable to ask - why now? This relationship has been played up like no other in franchise history. Clearly, there's intent. It's for you to decide what the intent is. I didn't think much of it in terms of how two characters relate.... but it's also easy to see the tie to social commentary / statement channeled through Trials (the single most controversial / battle embroiled mode in the game for a decade) - one that would challenge a segment of the base. Clearly, it's not coincidence this storyline is unfolding in June. It's also clear that discussion on this board was not only anticipated, but encouraged. Within the bigger social picture, it's Bungle prerogative to play more of this type role via Destiny. I don't believe it to be a divisive measure. As in the rest of life...it's about understanding and accepting people, most particularly when they live differently than you do. This applies to much more than just intimate attraction, but as an ever present commonality it's as good a mantle as any to carry the point. Sincerely, One who acknowledges the human condition for what it is.
