Matchmaking in competitive is so absolute trash. 8 out of the 10 times you’re paired with players who are nowhere near the skill level you are and u get farmed because the other team recognizes this and team kills you. So you are ended up with extremely lopsided teams depending on how the game decides. The fact the someone can match with me who goes .14 in pvp is insane!! I’m not a super sweat but I’m far beyond a .14! They need to do something about it. It is absolutely madness how it is setup now and makes playing PvP not even worth it or fun.

You're confusing how a person performs in an individual game with their average stats. Even 3.0 k/d players have off games. Even 0.1 k/d players pop off some games. Look at the AVERAGE to see why teams were balanced the way they were. I promise it will make more sense. Plus, team balancing is just plain hard. It's really impossible to predict how someone will play in a specific situation using average stats.

CURRENT form? It's the worst matchmaking in modern gaming and always has been, end of story. The fact that their new IP is PVP focused means it's failed already. I have a 1.3 k/d, I suck, I don't care. Match me accordingly. If I lose all 7 or 8 of my quali matches, and get Gold Tier 3 and get put on the losing team EVERY SINGLE MATCH, with a k/d of 1.3, stacked against a team where EVERYONE is a better k/d and I get people with the same or worse k/ds as mine, that is a joke of a matchmaking system, guaranteeing I lose every time. Sod PVP in this dumpsterfire of a matchmaking system, it's simply not fun or balanced at all. It doesn't work.

Yeah I'm either farming or getting farmed with no middle ground. I still enjoy it personally, I like to see the skill gap and room I have to grow but not everyone is like that and I can see how absolutely uninviting it is to any potential casual player.

That’s lobby balancing and it’s the exact reason SBMM and rank based matchmaking in an SBMM ecosystem is idiotic, just like Bungie. When I que a game of competitive, instead of the game finding people near my skill level the game will look for someone to “balance” my skill level to the enemy team. I’m a top 0.1% 3kd player, if the enemy team has three 1.8kd players (which is a good team overall) the game will NEED to find someone like you to balance my team out because if the game gave me two 1.8kd players the SBMM would be swayed dramatically in favor of my team and we would most likely win that game. Obviously this is horrible because you’re going to have a miserable time in that lobby because the average skill level in the lobby is astronomically higher than yours, and I’m going to have a bad time in that lobby because I’ll need to hard carry just for a chance of winning. Our third teammate is also going to have a hard time because the game is basically a 1v3 and the enemy team is going to have a bad time because there’s a chance they can actually lose the game to two players way below their skill level. So GG everyone is miserable. That is exactly why SBMM is idiotic in a competitive ecosystem. You know the funny part? We already knew this. Competitive games should always be elo based and prioritize matching players based on their elo. Chess has been doing this for thousands of years. It’s literally something we discovered THOUSANDS of years ago. We have know this for THOUSANDS of years, and Bungie STILL COULDN’T GET IT RIGHT. Why is it possible that a 0.8kd player can reach max rank and que into a lobby versus three 2.0kd players? Oh right… rank based SBMM… yeah that’s FOR SURE not a problem (obvious sarcasm). Bungie will never change the system btw and do you want to know why? Because under this system it’s possible for all players to reach max rank, you just need to play an ungodly amount of games. Bungie doesn’t want to creat an actual competitive game mode. Just something to play pretend. If the matchmaking was elo based some players would be stuck on the first rank forever and Bungie doesn’t like that. So we’re stuck with this horrible garbage system in the name of inclusivity because everyone deserves their gold medal. Thank you Bungie, we truly have some intelligent minds in this company.

Edited by Kiro - 13: 6/26/2024 1:51:47 AMWhat the game does way to often is instead of creating a similar skilled lobby it will create a lobby balanced around one person. The outlier protection system they implemented is no fun if you decide to get better at PvP, more often then not punishing you for being a better player. Example:
Lets say each team has a combined skill rating of 3000 with one outlier in the lobby rated at 2000 alone. Team A with the outlier will have 1 one person at 2000 skill rating and 5 players with a skill rating of 200 individually. Team B will have 6 players each with a 500 skill rating.
This was one of my trials games last week. https://destinytracker.com/destiny-2/pgcr/15162545912 3v2 and we almost lost, go figure, my teammates both had TWO combined kills. Had to sweat my butt off that game :(

Yet you still play it...

It's much better than it used to be. Now it actually matches on rank like a rank based playlist is supposed to work.
