I like the Pathfinder implementation for The Pale Heart. All nodes are relatively quick to complete and don't require doing different activities. You can wander around in patrol and finish a path efficiently. I do not like the Pathfinder implementation for Ops/Crucible/Gambit. They should all have their separate trees. I also think I should be able to claim a node whenever I finish it. I should not have to connect it to another node unless my goal is the prime engram. I am basically finishing bounties that I can't claim xp for unless I complete another unrelated bounty (node).
