Use of Timers

Dear Bungie: For many of us who have families, adding timers to activities which cause you to lose the whole activity if it lapses is a flat barrier to the content. In particular here I'm thinking heavily of Dual Destiny and Enigma Protocol. These are fine if I, and those with similar home life, happen to have time with the rest of the family out. Otherwise it is essentially impossible. My recommendation would be to either remove the timers for normal difficulty or add checkpoints after each major section which you start from if you fail instead of losing all progress. Then just add a higher difficulty level with the current timer mechanisms for these sorts of activities which gives greater rewards. Double loot drops or something. But if the trend continues with pass/fail timed mechanisms for the normal difficulty of core seasonal/expansion activities... Well I for one will no longer be able to continue purchasing the content, since I simply cannot effectively engage with it. As it stands one person in our fireteam who gets an interruption from their family (and all of us in our fireteam have one, which is one reason we stick together) then ruins 20-40 minutes of effort for the whole team. Rather than just being able to take a ten minute break while they take care of something and then resume. We are not all single 20-somethings with endless time to kill. Please consider this in the content design phase. I'm sure more players than just our fireteam would appreciate it. Respectfully.

  • Agreed I have already decided this appears to be the direction Bungie wants to take the franchise, so I will take my time and money elsewhere, others games that respect me. Forcing the two player mission as only way to get exotic class item and the timer wipe to orbit annoyed me and pissed me off as a solo player. I voiced my issues here, had many agree and many tell me the opposite with variations of "get gud, stfu, get a mic, use lfg loser, etc etc" We voice the feedback, now bungie can see player numbers and repercussions and decide.

Also what is with the community on these forums basically saying “time management “ or “get good”, sheesh, if you are unable to respond constructively in a sensible piece of feedback that would only grow the community of the game then why even bother?

    • You can’t spend 25 minutes on an activity? Don’t play the video game then.

    • Sorry, I didn’t finish reading this as my timer ran out! Sorry again, in a funny mood today, but agree totally. Timers should be short section related so you don’t lose your entire evenings game time on fail

Exactly this.. I've lost count of the times something has ruined an attempt. Doesn't even have to be family related.. could just be somebody at the door. Timers are utter balls

I have a family, I still find time to play and have done dual destiny. Stop blaming your family on your lack of skill. If you can't get it, that's fine. You have more important things to worry about anyway

        • The issue isn’t that you have a family, it’s that you have poor time management skills. Also the timers are more than generous to the point where you don’t even need to pay attention to it unless it’s legend zero hour.

        • Imagine choosing your own family over timers. Ew.

        • I think this would be a problem if the timers were long but pretty much every timed mission can easily be completed in 20 minutes or less. Yes, life happens and I sympathize with that, but if you can’t find 20 minutes to play uninterrupted honestly I don’t know how you even manage to play this game at all 😅

Respectfully.[/quote] Dear family guy; If you are old enough to be on your own- you should be capable of being able to set, create and stick to a coordinated schedule with your friends that gives you uninterrupted game time for 1-1.5hrs. If you can’t block out 1-1.6hrs between 2 people; you have more problems than video games. Stop asking for nerfs to suit your inability to plan. Yes plan….i plan for playdates for my kids, coordinated BJJ practice with gym mates, lunch dates with the wife, and uninterrupted gaming time for myself and friend to raid, dungeons etc

        • Timers can be good when used properly. Both Engima Protocol and Duel Destiny are fine - both give more time on completion or sections or on shooting hidden crystals. I myself am happy to teach or explain both activities and have been doing Duel Destiny teaching and will be helping with Enigma Protocol too.

        • You know anyone can spend like 30 minutes… not 2 hours… and the timed activities are to let you know you CAN complete it a maximum of the allotted time before it ends the activity.
