Are the Nessus Vex Developing Individuality?

I had considered making this post the previous week when I heard a voice line where Failsafe mentioned individual Vex units seemed to be communicating with each other. But I completed this week's storyline, and the Nessus Vex are up to all sorts of strange behavior. Vex units breaking formation. A trio of Minotaurs staggering shields in combat like Titans and going straight for a Hunter's Ghost when they appeared to resurrect her. Seemingly building sandcastles. A Vex Hobgoblin excitedly waving at a Guardian (before a Titan blew it to smithereens). A Hobgoblin running when it spots a Guardian. A Vex Minotaur breaking its own radiolaria container to dump its contents into the radiolaria after being damaged. Another thing the entry made clear, which is true in gameplay but something I didn't notice before, was that only the Nessus Vex have the energy collars on them. The Precursor Vex you see throughout Echoes activities, on the other hand, lacked the collars. In fact, other Vex showed up and wiped out the collared ones, ripped out the radiolaria cores, and were going to go back through a portal with them. Before a Titan Thundercrashed them. So far, the Echo that crashlanded on Nessus seems to be causing drastic changes to the Vex residing there, and the rest of the Vex Collective seem to be trying to get things under control. Whether this new, potential individuality is due to the Echo fragment, or a product of our mysterious figure from the trailer harnessing the Echo to gain control of the Vex, we'll just have to wait and see.

  • I been wondering that myself, if the Vex are capable of being independent outside of their formation. With the paracausal energies effecting them as it changes their intergration. Maybe it is possible. If we somehow end up having vex allies, it can be beneficial considering what they are capable of doing. I just dont know if its worth the risk considering the history they have with us battling them for so long. So is complicated. Still getting caught with lore of every sort relating to the vex so i can have a better understanding. Ill admit, this makes me think of Asher Mir when he studying them trying to find any plasuble theory.

  • Not sure why but the whole Echo idea from the Pale Heart feels like they are doing a WHAT IF! spin on things by causing Maya (Obviously Maya because she's mentioned more times than anything else in FS) to be a actual character and not text to Fikrul and his castle etc they feel like time pockets of different realities like how the Infinite Forest was but with past, present and future

  • Individuality would be a bit more difficult on a single Vex frame, as it contains many individuals inside working together. Based on the design and the trailer where Saint-14 has the collar around his neck, it most likely is a "yoke" as I have heard it described, which is typically seen on animal trains such as horses or oxen. My first thought is that they are being manipulated manually, either by subjugation (hence the yokes) or it could be altering their senses so that commands are given in opposition to what they intend to do, sort of like reverse psychology. As for the party responsible, the collars appear as an Ishtar symbol which was also found in the secret room at the end of the Star-crossed exotic mission, along with new voicelines in the Micah-10 Ghost mission for Insight Terminus regarding MSund12.

I can’t tell if this is a satire post or if those are actual events mentioned in-game 💀 (I’m not a lore guy)

What frightens me a bit about some of the flavour text:
The new Vex sounds not just very human...they sound like children; the behaviour, the way they are described to act, it's unnerving.
So I'm just out here casually killing...who, exactly?

        • It appears the Vex are having a Civil War at the very least. If on the rare chance we wind up with an allied Vex Faction I will be so shocked. I've always felt they're too alien to form alliances or want to communicate. Their behavior is so rooted in logic and devoid of emotion that from a human perspective they would seem Sociopathic. We know that Asher is out there somewhere like a rogue program in their Network. I would be ecstatic to have friendly Vex. It would give their narrative team a lot to work with. I use to have this wild fan theory that the Traveler/Gardener and Winnowner were the parents of the Vex. We know some Vex worshipped the Black Heart but what if some worship the Traveler? Another theory: The Vex we've encountered up to now are just their weakest units, even the strongest ones we've fought. They come here from their home like construction workers or scouts to build enough Vex installations so the actual army can come in. Terrifying theory. I actually would love to see Bungie add new types of enemy units to their ranks every other faction has had this done. All Vex have are the Jumping Bois. Most alternative types of Vex just have a different colored frame.

            • It's a narrative setup to meet a lore viable allied faction of Vex independent of the Vex Collective as a whole. This progression allows for it. It allows for us to meet individual Vex like Subject 12... this all pointing to the 1st Vex with autonomy per the lore. The one that came to Maya and the ICoV.

Seems more like a Vex Civil War.....caused by the Prismatic Echoes. The usual radiolaria vs the altered.

                • Well they are a microbial lifeform of many minds working in unison so it's not that far out that one can think for it's self. And maybe do something against the collective which begs the question what happens to the robot body if all the vex controlling it can't agree on something. If that happens we could see a massive shift in some sub groups of vex and maybe a shift in the overall vex of which we haven't seen yet. Something to remember to is we have only faced a very small fraction of what the vex can do they can create matter build around stars and perfectly simulate reality to the point the line between simulation and real becomes near non existent. If the echo drastically alters the overall vex collective it could splinter their race to the point they could have a civil war or lose the ability to operate a lot of technology like their prediction engines. Im assuming to operate a prediction engine like the mercury one requires a lot of vex working in unison just for it to run safely and effectively. Can't remember where it is but there is a lore entry where the vex simulated fundermant and it was so dangerous they had to stop which shows just how bad it is if they can't maintain safety protocols. And than the forge star Clovis found if the vex fought eachother over that it would be utter chaos. The echo in the hands of the vex unchecked is near literally a witness level problem. And if the vex successfully simulate it well we boned hard one is causing major issues.
