So lately I've been having an issue in where Destiny 2 locks at 20fps for no reason. When I am in orbit the game is running 70-110fps even in menu, but the moment I leave orbit and load into the Tower, PVP, a PVE location or activity, and now after the last update play cutscenes the game drops to and locks at 20fps. Not a minimum, a max of 20fps.
I know this is a game issue thanks to the latest cutscene (Crow entering the Pale Heart). The moment it played the game locked to a perfect 20fps, but when in the menu or the Tower it bounces around from 15-20fps. Something game related is locking me at this frame rate but I'm at a lost of finding/fixing it.
No what what I try nothing seems to work. Drop graphics down to Low, play in Window mode, set FPS limit to 144, enable/disable Vsync, mess with render distance, verify game files, and even uninstall and reinstall. No matter what I do, the game locks to 20fps the moment I leave orbit. And specifically orbit, opening my innovatory in orbit get me 60-110 where loading into the tower and opening the same inventory magically drop to 11-20.
The only major change I have made of late is I had to switch to one of those Air wifi services due to our old service being terrible and the Air Wifi service being the only other provider in my area, but even then although my upload speed is between 12-20mbps my download is 120-220mbps and has had no major affect on the other online games I play.
Anyone have any ideas?? I'm at a lost.

Edited by Braywolf: 6/11/2024 9:32:56 PMUpdate: TL;DR: For some reason D2 is no longer a fan of certain gaming laptop presets and requires a fast SSD connection, if your games performance massively dip after the introduction of Onslaught (the last major update before Final Shape) then try Switching to Performance Mode and updating your SSD drivers. Full Story: So I found out what the issue was, and man is it stupid. So I have a Gigabyte Gaming Laptop and at some random point my laptop switched from Balanced Mode to Energy Saving mode. This happened quite a while ago as I notice that my fan noise and heat were way down but assumed that was some kind of cooling optimization or something as it had no real effect anywhere else. IDK why but for some reason the D2 updated that added the new PVE mode Onslaught (thats when the issue first came up) also changed something internal cus D2 was hatting this. The issue steamed from my artificially slower SSD speed as changing back to Performance Mode fixed everything and brought my frame rate back to normal. If I had to take a shot in the dark, I think the issue is that D2 now requires a much faster SSD speed then before and when it wasn't getting that triggered BattleEye to analyze the game files while in use to make sure I wasn't cheating which overworked the limited SSD thus causing a huge dip in performance to appear as a GPU or connection issue. This is super dumb as I have never seen an SSD cause such issues before but at least its fixed.

Edited by Kemaleon: 6/2/2024 7:26:30 PMOk I want you to try something for me: Run Destiny but make sure nothing else is running, close Steam window. Play Destiny and when the FPS drops try pressing ALT-TAB, now does your frame rate change when you press these? EDIT: What GPU driver software are you using? ie Nvidia or AMD?

Delete/reinstall. Verify game files. Confirm graphics settings in game. Confirm graphics settings in system. Update any graphics drivers. (If graphics drivers are up to date) Try rolling back to a previous graphic driver. Basically check anything to do with your system that may have changed recently. It could be something unusual and not expected. Example: I use a wireless Corsair headset for gaming, if it's not turned on, Destiny WILL NOT load at launch. This doesn't happen with anything else I play, only Destiny.
