Edited by Upperclass Bum: 5/16/2024 1:45:07 AMLol, you're on the wrong side of the internet for this. r/Dreadlocks is full of hypocritical gate keeping -blam!-, but you'll get some decent info there otherwise. I've had like, 3 different sets of dreads (the picture is the length I started with for my 2nd set) the coils were about as long as an average length pinky or thumb. I started my current set with my hair slightly longer than this (so about 2 ish years of hair growth) and after I got it twisted was around that guy's length if not longer. If you're intending to let them mature into dreads and not undoing the twist after a bit, I'd honestly recommend starting with shorter hair as it's just a lot easier to maintain early on. Easier to wrap it at night and not worry about messing them up, etc. Just understand this -blam!- is a process and you have to be patient. There will be days where you want to give up on the style and think it looks like -blam!- while everyone else's looks on point, but just keep at it. The ugly stage is a prerequisite.
