Arc Titan NEEDS a PvE Buff - Onslaught/Prismatic

I started this post ranking the PvE Titan Subclasses for Onslaught but it turns out I had a lot to say about Arc Titan, especially with Prismatic coming out soon. Instead I’m going to rant about how underwhelming Arc Titan feels to play in high level content, especially legend Onslaught, and offer a few suggestions on how to fix it. First off, why does Thundercrash slide off of every boss in Onslaught? From the mine Brigs and Ogres to the Demolitionists, Thundercrash just slides through or off of them negating a huge part of the damage. Cuirass of the Falling Star only buffs impact damage. I pray that this is not an issue in Final Shape but it worries me that every time they showed off Thundercrash in the footage, the character deliberately aimed for the ground rather than the enemy. This had the odd side-effect of making me use Fists of Havoc in earnest again and I’m disappointed to say that, despite the buffs, it’s still the worst Titan super. While the damage is not downright abysmal like it used to be, it still lacks versatility and duration. Four slams or 7-8 weak, awkward shoulder charges and it’s out. The only exotic that helps it is Eternal Warrior which grants an overshield when you cast it. Yay… Compare that to Doomfang for Sentinel Shield or Pyrogale for Maul. Not good. Maybe Synthoceps is the way to go but still no duration extention. Aside from the super issues, the lack of defensive options is a real bummer. Every other subclass has better defensive options ranging from overshields to Banner of War to restoration to Woven Mail to even the Stasis overshield granted by picking up shards with the fragment. The only two defensive fragments for Arc Titan either require you to be surrounded or sprinting. And yes Knockout starts health regen on Melee kills but that is niche and ineffective on dangerous majors or bosses. So, if the defense is lacking, surely it makes up for it with a high-powered offense, right? Wrong. Since the various nerfs in Season of the Plunder including many that were meant for PvP yet still negatively impacted PvE, Arc Titan has been slowly ground out of the meta. Storm grenades are a shadow of their former selves, leaving Pulse grenades as the only viable option. Touch of Thunder states that it creates a ‘roaming’ thundercloud but after the PvP nerfs, the maximum area that it can “roam” is approximately twelve feet. Literally. It doesn’t even start roaming for like two seconds which means that any enemy that survives the initial bolt will be long gone before it decides to follow them. Also can anyone explain to me how flashbang grenades have a longer cooldown than fusion grenades? Because I don’t get it. The buff that Touch of Thunder gives them is “blinding explosion on bounces” which is so far from strong that it might as well be blank. But the most disappointing thing about this subclass is the lack of melee damage. After running Point Contact Cannon Brace for a run of Onslaught, I was shocked when a fully charged Thunderclap didn’t even bring down an orange bar knight or take away even close to half of yellow bar Saboteur. Sure, you can run Skullfort to kill more red bar adds but the only thing Arc Titan does well is kill mobs, I don’t need an exotic to help with that. I guess Synthoceps it is yet again. The class itself needs a buff to be worth running anywhere where the enemies don’t just fall over when you look at them. And the final nail in the coffin for Arc is Prismatic. The single best part about Arc Titan is Thundercrash and Cuirass, something that Prismatic can do. The only reason to run Arc will be for PvP and even then, that’s been nerfed so thoroughly that it’s just mid at best. Let’s look at what Arc will have that’s unique after Final Shape: Ballistic Slam, Touch of Thunder, Juggernaut, Fist of Havoc, and… no that’s it. Ballistic Slam and Juggernaut are worthless in PvE, Fist of Havoc is a roaming melee super with mid damage (something that every other Titan class has), and Touch of Thunder grants useless buffs to grenades outside of Lightning Grenades for PvP and Pulse Grenades which, oh yeah, are going to Prismatic. So with all of these problems, how do we fix it in a way that doesn’t break PvP? Aside from, god forbid, PvE specific tuning, here are some of my ideas: 1. Give Knockout the ability to have Thruster grant health regen when amplified. This adds survivability to a class that desperately needs it for both Arc and Prismatic. Plus, gives you a reason to actually use Thruster instead of Barricade. In PvP it’s harder to become amplified or if that’s too much, how bout when you’re surrounded instead. 2. Make a brand new Aspect focused on defense of some kind. If you don’t want to give one that gives flat DR, how bout one that emits a blinding burst and lightning strikes whenever you lose your shield or after you get rapid kills with arc abilities. 3. Change the cooldown of Flashbang Grenades to 60 seconds or give them some better ability with Touch of Thunder like spawning a new grenade if you kill a target blinded by the initial one. 4. Give Fist of Havoc some ability regen or duration on multi kills with Juggernaut or just innately. If you have to tie it to an exotic, then make it actually useable. 5. Make a melee aspect like Touch of Thunder that grants a buff to all three melees. How was that not the initial idea for Titans? Could be something like “Seismic Assault”. Ballistic Slam now blinds on impact and leaves behind a blinding damage zone for several seconds after impact. On kill,Seismic Strike detonates in an a Chain Reaction AoE. When Thunderclap is fully charged, it deals up to 100% more damage. Done. 6. Make Storm Grenades actually roam around like they’re supposed to and stick around for more than 5 seconds. I understand that they were too powerful for PvP but that shouldn’t cost PvE the coolest thing about Arc Titan when it originally came out for 3.0. Make it do no damage in PvP or make it just roam around blinding things, I don’t know just make it so they don’t suck like they do right now, especially compared to pulse grenades. 7. Fix Thundercrash in Onslaught. And I swear to sweet baby Jesus, if it just slides off of bosses in the Final Shape, just delete it from the game so it can die with fond memories of actually being a useful super with Cuirass. Lest we forget, before Cuirass, Thundercrash and Arc in general was rarely used because of its poor damage. Cuirass and its buff specifically to impact damage is what saved it. If we can’t impact bosses anymore, it will essentially kill the class again.

  • Preach. Just preach. Arc Titan main since D1. It just brings nothing that other classes don't already bring and more. No healing with this class outside of Knockout. Big woop. With the nerf to orbs, not like you can heal off them consistently anymore. It's rough.
