Arc Titan NEEDS a PvE Buff - Onslaught/Prismatic

I started this post ranking the PvE Titan Subclasses for Onslaught but it turns out I had a lot to say about Arc Titan, especially with Prismatic coming out soon. Instead I’m going to rant about how underwhelming Arc Titan feels to play in high level content, especially legend Onslaught, and offer a few suggestions on how to fix it. First off, why does Thundercrash slide off of every boss in Onslaught? From the mine Brigs and Ogres to the Demolitionists, Thundercrash just slides through or off of them negating a huge part of the damage. Cuirass of the Falling Star only buffs impact damage. I pray that this is not an issue in Final Shape but it worries me that every time they showed off Thundercrash in the footage, the character deliberately aimed for the ground rather than the enemy. This had the odd side-effect of making me use Fists of Havoc in earnest again and I’m disappointed to say that, despite the buffs, it’s still the worst Titan super. While the damage is not downright abysmal like it used to be, it still lacks versatility and duration. Four slams or 7-8 weak, awkward shoulder charges and it’s out. The only exotic that helps it is Eternal Warrior which grants an overshield when you cast it. Yay… Compare that to Doomfang for Sentinel Shield or Pyrogale for Maul. Not good. Maybe Synthoceps is the way to go but still no duration extention. Aside from the super issues, the lack of defensive options is a real bummer. Every other subclass has better defensive options ranging from overshields to Banner of War to restoration to Woven Mail to even the Stasis overshield granted by picking up shards with the fragment. The only two defensive fragments for Arc Titan either require you to be surrounded or sprinting. And yes Knockout starts health regen on Melee kills but that is niche and ineffective on dangerous majors or bosses. So, if the defense is lacking, surely it makes up for it with a high-powered offense, right? Wrong. Since the various nerfs in Season of the Plunder including many that were meant for PvP yet still negatively impacted PvE, Arc Titan has been slowly ground out of the meta. Storm grenades are a shadow of their former selves, leaving Pulse grenades as the only viable option. Touch of Thunder states that it creates a ‘roaming’ thundercloud but after the PvP nerfs, the maximum area that it can “roam” is approximately twelve feet. Literally. It doesn’t even start roaming for like two seconds which means that any enemy that survives the initial bolt will be long gone before it decides to follow them. Also can anyone explain to me how flashbang grenades have a longer cooldown than fusion grenades? Because I don’t get it. The buff that Touch of Thunder gives them is “blinding explosion on bounces” which is so far from strong that it might as well be blank. But the most disappointing thing about this subclass is the lack of melee damage. After running Point Contact Cannon Brace for a run of Onslaught, I was shocked when a fully charged Thunderclap didn’t even bring down an orange bar knight or take away even close to half of yellow bar Saboteur. Sure, you can run Skullfort to kill more red bar adds but the only thing Arc Titan does well is kill mobs, I don’t need an exotic to help with that. I guess Synthoceps it is yet again. The class itself needs a buff to be worth running anywhere where the enemies don’t just fall over when you look at them. And the final nail in the coffin for Arc is Prismatic. The single best part about Arc Titan is Thundercrash and Cuirass, something that Prismatic can do. The only reason to run Arc will be for PvP and even then, that’s been nerfed so thoroughly that it’s just mid at best. Let’s look at what Arc will have that’s unique after Final Shape: Ballistic Slam, Touch of Thunder, Juggernaut, Fist of Havoc, and… no that’s it. Ballistic Slam and Juggernaut are worthless in PvE, Fist of Havoc is a roaming melee super with mid damage (something that every other Titan class has), and Touch of Thunder grants useless buffs to grenades outside of Lightning Grenades for PvP and Pulse Grenades which, oh yeah, are going to Prismatic. So with all of these problems, how do we fix it in a way that doesn’t break PvP? Aside from, god forbid, PvE specific tuning, here are some of my ideas: 1. Give Knockout the ability to have Thruster grant health regen when amplified. This adds survivability to a class that desperately needs it for both Arc and Prismatic. Plus, gives you a reason to actually use Thruster instead of Barricade. In PvP it’s harder to become amplified or if that’s too much, how bout when you’re surrounded instead. 2. Make a brand new Aspect focused on defense of some kind. If you don’t want to give one that gives flat DR, how bout one that emits a blinding burst and lightning strikes whenever you lose your shield or after you get rapid kills with arc abilities. 3. Change the cooldown of Flashbang Grenades to 60 seconds or give them some better ability with Touch of Thunder like spawning a new grenade if you kill a target blinded by the initial one. 4. Give Fist of Havoc some ability regen or duration on multi kills with Juggernaut or just innately. If you have to tie it to an exotic, then make it actually useable. 5. Make a melee aspect like Touch of Thunder that grants a buff to all three melees. How was that not the initial idea for Titans? Could be something like “Seismic Assault”. Ballistic Slam now blinds on impact and leaves behind a blinding damage zone for several seconds after impact. On kill,Seismic Strike detonates in an a Chain Reaction AoE. When Thunderclap is fully charged, it deals up to 100% more damage. Done. 6. Make Storm Grenades actually roam around like they’re supposed to and stick around for more than 5 seconds. I understand that they were too powerful for PvP but that shouldn’t cost PvE the coolest thing about Arc Titan when it originally came out for 3.0. Make it do no damage in PvP or make it just roam around blinding things, I don’t know just make it so they don’t suck like they do right now, especially compared to pulse grenades. 7. Fix Thundercrash in Onslaught. And I swear to sweet baby Jesus, if it just slides off of bosses in the Final Shape, just delete it from the game so it can die with fond memories of actually being a useful super with Cuirass. Lest we forget, before Cuirass, Thundercrash and Arc in general was rarely used because of its poor damage. Cuirass and its buff specifically to impact damage is what saved it. If we can’t impact bosses anymore, it will essentially kill the class again.

Arc just needs some type of survivability. All the other subclasses have some way of buffing allies and keeping themselves alive, and arc is just missing that. Whether that be something similar to woven mail or some type of shield or health regen. Either that or they need to seriously buff the damage output to make it more of a glass cannon class.

      • Buff thundercrash damage and nerf cuirass to compansate. The super should be much stronger because its the most risky damage super and it takes the most time because you have to run back to your damage position on many bosses.

Meanwhile atraks is destroyed the fastest with 6 titans and Thundercrash. Want healing? Plenty of guns with heal clip, there's a exotic that grants devour. Or you can just spam doomfangs on void... anything on strand... or unlimited healing and huge damage with fire and pyros.. arc had multiple seasons where it was a walking god...let it go for now

              • There was a whole Arc Titan meta in Endgame PvE in Witch Queen with Heart of Inmost Light. Maybe you missed it? If they buff it, they need to be careful. It just needs survivability buffs however that would function without being busted.

                • Just use skullforts and the charge-up melee with hands off and the helmet perk for super charge. Gives your full melee back on melee kills, and kills both regen health and give you a -blam!- load of super charge back. Sure it’s stayed still while we’ve power crept, but it’s absolutely still good. Saw a video today of a guy getting his super back in 12s this way, and the -blam!- only even had 32 intellect to his name.

                  • Fist of Havoc is quite strong. It still has the airborne bonus damage, and it blinds in the center of the slam. Pre Nerf HoiL+pre nerf storm Nades were the only thing that made it OP. I’d say it’s still quite strong, but requires fully optimized mods, weapons and gameplay. Its biggest downside is its lack of DR/healing in everything but melee range. A buff to base T-Crash would be nice, and maybe a reduction in the storm nade nerf from before. It’s a one trick pony for endgame content, but it does that well enough to warrant usage. People just don’t want to play something that’s subpar when Solar, Strand and even Stasis titan exist. All three are just better in most PvE content, and even more so in Onslaught.

                  • More importantly about cuirass, why does every weapon on my back hang so long that it looks super weird. So much so that I literally don’t want to run it because I hate that visual glitch.

Are in general needs a buff in pve. Bungie did not design arc subclasses for pve at all.

                    • I’ve been an arc titan main for god knows how many years, and man do I feel this. They’ve neutered arc titan. They hit our grenades, our melee, our super multiple times, our fragments, and our exotics. We’ve received big nerfs from multiple angles. T crash sliding off enemies is something I’ve been raising an eyebrow at for a few months. So very frequently I will try my hardest to direct impact a boss with t crash but it’s like an invisible wall, it’s impossible to impact. You’re forced to hit the ground. Would love some buffs for my fav class

                      • Preach. Just preach. Arc Titan main since D1. It just brings nothing that other classes don't already bring and more. No healing with this class outside of Knockout. Big woop. With the nerf to orbs, not like you can heal off them consistently anymore. It's rough.

                      • Arc titan used to be meta even meta enough to destroy Gms back when they got the arc 3.0 buffs in plunder. Storm grenade + heart of inmost light for storm nade spam. That build was so fun but got neutered so bad it isn’t even worth running in general.

                        • I've known that arc has felt terrible on titan for a while now, but man, I completely glossed over how redundant prismatic will make it. As you said, its only redeeming qualities (t-crash and t-clap) will be on prismatic. So unless they buff it, we could just replace the arc aspects of our builds with prismatic and lose nothing. That's just sad.

                        • Fellow titan main here. Used to love arc titan (specifically thundercrash with curiass) before arc 3.0. Now, arc is my least favorite subclass (for pve). Like you said, there is no form of protection which would be fine if it was supposed to be a glass cannon type of subclass. But when the only way you can do decent damage is using an exotic with one super, then there is something wrong. Another problem is the lack of viable builds. Warlocks are great at generating ionic traces. Hunters can roll around the map one hit killing everything with their melee (while titans are supposed to be the “melee class”). But what is arc titan good at? Nothing that the other classes can’t do. Honestly, they should just lean into the glass cannon type of build. Buff base thundercrash damage to what it is with cuirass. Then change curiass to be something like “grants an overshield when using thundercrash. Gain super energy for getting hits with thundercrash (main impact and the lingering field).

Bump. I hate how useless arc titan has become. It's really obvious when you play onslaught. Honestly, it's simply because they put exploders everywhere. Basically, they countered the entire class as a whole by doing that.
