We're getting new network infrastructure that will have dedicated servers.
It started with the Marathon reveal... which has been shelved or pushed back now. We found out 2 things during that reveal...
1. Marathon will use the Tiger engine
2. Marathon will have dedicated servers
Destiny 2 uses the Tiger engine.
They shifted resources back to D2, all reports suggest... but they haven't stopped upgrading the game engine. What we're getting in the Final Shape wasn't possible even 2 years ago.
Think of all the content currently in the game, now imagine a Forsaken level content drop. That's what is coming. Thats what Luke Smith was teasing.
I think D2 will get dedicated servers within a year or right after episode 3 leading into the new saga. D2 is set up to have the best 2 yrs in the franchise's history... the culmination of the Light & Dark saga leading into a new era right after.
The Final Shape and the next yearly expansion will anchor & define the franchise going forward.

I've been sleuthing in the game, trying to avoid burnout from playing too much onslaught. Right now I'm looking for hidden symbols. It led me to Cadmus Ridge. Named for Cadmus, the grandfather (corrected) of Dionysus... who is the god of "Letting Go"... whose spirit animal is a Tiger, btw 👀 (this is what got me thinking about the Tiger engine).
There's a computer there in Eternity of Bray Exoscience... We 1st saw it in Beyond Light. That computer was dormant for 2+yrs before it switched on right around a year ago.
When did Humanity first achieve Transcendence?
Subject 13 is the Vex prophet that was the genesis for the Echo Program, Soteria...
Their information could not be validated without the Exos. !Letting Go is the clue. That computer turning on at the beginning of Light Fall is a marker for what's to come.
The 1st prototype Exo. That's when the red pill was swallowed, that's when we found the rabbit hole.
The Tiger symbol is not a coincidence. Into the Light is foreshadowing episode Echoes. That Tiger symbol represents that moment in the narrative when the information from Subject 13 was verified... when the human soul/consciousness was transferred into the first prototype Exo frame.
That's when humanity achieved transcendence for the 1st time.
To add: the irony being... [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bacchae]The Bacchae[/url] Tragedy, our salvation came... or rather the possibility of it came from the Darkness... from submitting to the Darkness. Like Maya did, documented in Chioma's logs in Veil Containment. The prototype Exo were powered, not by the "light" but, by the Darkness.
And it was the only way. !Letting Go. There is no "Light" here.
"We are your salvation". Remember that quote? That's Soteria. That's literally what "Soteria" means. When/IF we find Soteria... "she" will be corrupted. And why not? SiVA got corrupted... Rasputin got corrupted, feared (which is so interesting) being corrupted again... that's why he's gone now 😢.

Bungie has stated multiple time that D2 will NEVER get dedicated serves because they were to stupid during developmemt and now it wiuld take a literal recode of the ENTIRE GAME in order to make it work and bungie literally doesnt have the skill to do that. They can [b][i][u]BARELY[/u][/i][/b] keep this bucket of spilled -blam!- running as it is, if they tried to swap to dedis the game would go down for so long its existance would be forgotten entirely. Once TFS is over bungie is gone, D2 is their only running IP and its in completely shambles and neither of the other 2 IPs in developmemt will be out before 2026 (bet me money there will be another delay). This isnt "bungies backed into a corner and pulling out all the stops" this is simply the death spiral before the end. -
Thought provoking indeed guardian, well presented. :) I think a fully supported Destiny be it 2 plus episodic content or 3 moving forward, with a dedicated server backbone allowing realistic anti - cheat for PvP and more efficient game build management in general, would be more popular than Marathon. For the near future though I am just laying in extra laundry detergent before I have to face TR3-VR again. :) I'm looking forward to posts from guardians having a first TR3-VR experience. :)

1 ReplyMarathon had to have dedicated servers for 2 reasons. Firstly they know their P2P network in dated in the 2000s & it would be dead on arrival if it was P2P. I mean it was that bad D1 had a bounty to get a kill when you where dead, but thanks to destiny network you'd get 10 postmortem medals per game lol. Secondly dedicated servers will give them a little good faith because they're gonna get destroyed by cheats they've not handled cheats for over 20 years, they're not starting now. Tiger engine is upgraded every year, often twice. Most engines are. An engine btw is a toolset or a toolbox, not like a car engine. So you can make 2 entirely separate unlinked entities using the same engine. Absolutely no way d2 will ever have dedicated servers. Neither will d3. They're very expensive. Even cod turn them off 3 months after release & only have them in certain regions.

I don’t think Bungie would actually put that kind of development and resources into a game franchise they are pulling away from to focus on their new baby. It just doesn’t seem realistic to me from a business standpoint. We’ll see though, and of course I hope this is true.

Well written, lots of rumors floating around my guess some kind of restart within the next 2 years. Bungie has the weapons and gameplay down pat just need to come up with new environments and mechanics. 😄

Very interesting I like it, but if dedicated servers happen won't you have to rent a sever, that breaks destiny 2 free to play idea not only, you would have to buy a paid subscription with silver.

Dedicated servers for D2 won't happen since its not worth it for an arena style PvP at this point. Marathon gets dedicated servers because of the type of game it is. !lettinggo is either done by someone who knew information on Destiny or more than likely just a Bungie fanatic (hence the Marathon logo in the video), if it was from Bungie themselves its at best just a reference to Exo Rasputin from the original 2013 Destiny story.

First. Soteria never escaped. She was locked away within the Pillary Tower, where she was harbored until the Vex started to invade the space, where upon she ran to the only other Safe storage area, that being the Seraph Bow, Hierarchy of Needs, where she remains. There is no other Soteria for us to find or locate from my (albeit limited) understanding of that story. As for Siva and Rasputin. Neither were corrupted. Rasputin activated a fail safe that would remove his moral inhibitions, leading to him sacrificing whatever necessary for the survival of Humanity, and when that failed, he closed himself off, protecting himself so that at a future date, he might return. When Siva was first activated in the post collapse world, it was by a pissed off Rasputin who wanted to kill Felwinter, and those associated with him, being the Iron Lords. He succeede. There is no corruption. Siva was then used by the Fallen Splicers, who augmented themselves with it, and created a new machine god (Aksis) who could produce Siva if I remember correctly.

[/quote] Cadmus was the [b]grandfather[/b] of Dionysus in one of his origin myths. Not his father. Dionysus’ father was Zeus. His mother was Semele, Cadmus’ daughter. The play “The Bacchae” is all about Dionysus’ revenge upon his mother’s sisters and the royal family of Thebes for denouncing his paternal lineage as a lie to cover up his mother’s supposed infidelity with a mortal. That error aside. Whilst I hope the game continues to get better, the rest of your post is like a covering letter for your application to live in an institution. One with nice padded rooms and jackets that tie up at the back. 😜 In short I hope we get dedicated servers too, but this post of yours is an ephemeral link between the game’s narrative and dedicated servers.
