So far I have grinded dozens of hours in Onslaught and I continue not to get my desired rolls on many of these guns. I’m not even talking about a ‘good’ shiny version or even the barrel and mag options, I’m just talking about the normal versions two base perks.
I have had Mountaintop attuned for over a week, I have received well over a 100 of them, and yet I haven’t gotten Recombination and Auto-Loading holster on a single roll.
The point of all this complaining is that I believe that the perk packages on each weapon could be cut down in each column without sacrificing perks that anybody cares about. This would drastically increase the chance of getting actually good perks since each additional option creates exponentially more drops that are trash.
These weapons are supposed to have “competitive” perks as they represent the best of destiny’s history. So why are there so many garbage or redundant perks on all of them?
So I’m going to go through each weapon and identify the perks that I would eliminate and see if any one would actually care.
Forbearance
Steady Hands - why does this perk exist? It only gives handling on kills. Is this so I can swap away from it a microsecond faster? Anyone who gets this perk is immediately dismantling the gun.
Surplus and Stats for All - these are redundant, you only need one, probably Stats for All since you are almost always hitting 3 enemies. Plus you don’t want a perk that relies on you not using your abilities to get a buff.
Bait and Switch - I know it’s the raid specific perk but seriously who is swapping through their three weapons, including past their heavy, to get a damage buff with a wave frame launcher. C’mon.
Golden Tricorn and Desperate Measures - Redundant. I know there not exactly the same but the difference is not worth it here
Mountaintop
Slickdraw and Rampage
God I hate these perks on this gun. They’re both outclassed. Adrenaline Junkie and One-for-All are nearly strictly better than Rampage and Slickdraws handling is worthless in PvE compared literally any other perk and in PvP by Impulse. Not to mention having high handling is great if you want to save time but you know what saves more time? Not reloading the gun with Ambitious, Autoloading, or Overflow!
Hammerhead
Under-Over, High Impact Reserves, and Tap the Trigger
Okay, I can sort of buy Tap the Trigger for Crucible, but then that begs the question, why is High Impact Reserves here? It’s surely not for PvE. It doesn’t even lower time to kill in Crucible until the final 4 bullets if you hit all of them. Why does this gun have this perk? And finally Under Over. This perk has always been bad, it will always be bad, and it’s an auto delete every time. Why? Because no one is going to break out there Under Over because some knight has a shield. And if someone says Crucible for the juicy 20% damage on Void Titan overshields, I’m going to lose my mind.
Succession
Firmly Planted and Box Breathing
Honestly less offensive perks here but they do feel outclassed by others in their categories. Unneeded more than useless.
The Recluse
Enlightened Action and Master of Arms
Enlightened Action is just a worse Threat Detector and Feeding Frenzy. However, the truly baffling thing here is that Master of Arms is the actual worst perk. I mean Target Lock is pretty useless these days on a SMG but Master of Arms is genuinely worthless which is a crazy thing to say since it used to be the best perk in the game. 15% on a kill for 6 seconds is strictly worse than Frenzy, which gives you reload and handling and just requires any damage to keep active. Laughably, the “curated” roll is Master of Arms and Feeding Frenzy… which is just what Frenzy does with one perk and no kills.
Even for PvP, the gun feels bad with lacking range and a literal 1 point of damage extra per shot when you have Master of Arms active. Target lock is just better despite also being mid. Easily the biggest disappointment of the Brave arsenal offering nothing of value to PvE or PvP except the Repulsor and Destabilizing roll that can be found on the Title. But certainly no value from Master of Arms.
Falling Guillotine
Duelist Trance and Desperate Measures
Honestly don’t mind these all that much but these two could have been trimmed and no one would put up much of a fuss.
Edge Transit
Impulse Amplifier, Full Court and Adrenaline Junkie
Impulse is probably for Crucible so… fine, I guess. Adrenaline Junkie seems like the weakest damage option out of what’s available. And please please please make Full Court actually worth using. 25% damage for firing like 40 meters away with low projectile speed is not good enough. Kind of cool with sticky grenades in Crucible though.
Midnight Coup
Enlightened Action and Rampage
I’ve already covered these two before. They are both obviously the weaker version of other perks on the same gun including Firefly, Outlaw and One-for-All, Kinetic Tremors.
Elsie’s Rifle
Loose Change, Under-Over and Desperado
Loose Change essentially gives you moving target when you damage a debuffed enemy. Just what we all wanted, a harder to activate Moving Target. How is this a ‘competitive’ perk in any situation? Under-Over blows. Maybe slightly less on a primary rather than a heavy machine gun like Hammerhead but it’s still blowing. And Desperado, used to be great now it’s bad. Unless this gets buffed don’t use it. In both PvE and PvP, literally any damage perk will outperform this.
Hung Jury
Loose Change, Enlightened Action, and Cascade Point
Enlightened Action = weak. Why the cluck is Loose Change on a Kinetic Weapon? That perk requires an elemental debuff. Am I supposed to switch to Hung Jury after applying an elemental debuff for that sweet, sweet movement speed and handling while ADS? That has to be the dumbest perk on any of thes- Wait, what? They put Cascade Point in the fourth column? WHY? Wait, wait I get it, I get it. I’ll use a sniper or machine gun to get precision shots and then I’ll switch to a slightly faster firing Hung Jury to really pack in those Deeps.
