What ever happened to SIVA?

Sure we got small bits of info and lore like from outbreak perfected, but after Rise of Iron it feels like SIVA was just completely forgotten and never mentioned in depth again. I’ve heard people call RoI a filler dlc because it was just kinda brushed under the rug and Aksis as well as the entire storyline of SIVA was just never used/mentioned again. It’s a real shame considering how unique SIVA was as well as the potential it had for further story usage.

  • It was one of the most interesting things in the game, so of course Bungie decided to end it.

  • Practically it’s because Rise of Iron WAS filler. In-universe it’s because we destroyed the SIVA replication complex under the Cosmodrome, ending the Devil’s production. This triggered Aksis calling all Fallen to his banner with any SIVA samples as payment for their ascension. We intercepted this transmission, stormed their base and destroyed their plans for an invasion force while crippling the Splicers. The Cosmodrome was then sealed off under Quarantine. Bungie however disregarded Rise of Iron when the Cosmodrome returned, with some of the destruction caused undone for no apparent reason. Any remaining SIVA would likely only be found in the Exodus ships. Neomuna was founded on it and it was eventually upgraded into the nanotech we see the Cloudstriders use as well as Quicksilver Storm. The Exodus Black’a store is classified so Failsafe cannot locate it. It’s either been unclaimed, scavenged by the Fallen or found by the Vex. There’s also Outbreak Perfected, a small SIVA generator that Eramis attempted to steal in order to win over any remaining Devil Splicers. Her Lieutenant failed in that mission and we resecured it.

    • That’s why Bungie called D2 a soft reboot and D1 “comic book zero”

    • That information is classified Only vanguard personnel with top clearance know But rumor has it they locked up what was left of it in a secret maximum security research lab in a undisclosed location

    • Rise of Iron is such a slept on expansion even though it practically revived D1.

    • Long story short, SIVA was never intended to be a major thing in the destiny universe. Bungie doesn't want to use or revive it as a story last they told us (which could change) and was really a "purpose built" antagonist for rise of iron

    • It's been brought up a few times in D2. Failsafe talks about it, the Neomuna nano tech is based off it. I think it was also brought up in season of the seraph. I suspect it will return as an episode in the upcoming years. In fact bungie even made a siva version of the exodus crash strike, but they removed it before launching D2

    • Firstly it was used again in lore for felwinter. Secondly we destroyed to siva replication chamber and purged almost all of its remains. Thirdly alot of what neomuna was and still is built out of is a version of siva that has been advance a few thousand years. Lastly ur bad and haha (Sorry this comment seemed alot more negative and potentually wrong than I thought it would. Hence why I added the Ur bad and haha part, it was sarcasim but sarcasim is hard to understand through text.) How ever I too would like to see siva again... Why did I type out this long -blam!- comment... because I am cooling down after a bad checkmate experience

      • We destroyed almost all of it in Rise of Iron. SIVA was a one and done, as it was written to be.

Rise of Iron has always been met with reticence by the current writers it seems. There was that concept art for Nessus and the exodus black relating to Siva that never went anywhere. And then RoI was practically treated as non-canon. We’ll never know, I suppose. Personally I kinda liked the somber mood of RoI tbh. It fit better in tone with a civilization fighting for its very existence. The cartoony witness, Nimbus’ high-fiving Caiatl’s loss of her father, the overdoing of Cayde’s comedy (a character with such a tragic background), turning crow from original rogue concept to -blam!- prince to cringe guardian … and so on … quite a few moments in destiny just felt off. Burying … or “tying a bow on” RoI was a missed opportunity imo. Edit: Cayde-6 is still one of my favourite destiny characters, Nathan Fillion did a wonderful job. The writing for the character just sometimes went too far into dumb joke territory, beyond just a coping mechanism for Cayde.

      • When you see it, it's too late. Just give it a bit. Remember people thought Elsie wouldn't ever appear again because Bungie had said that was the end of her story (the "stranger")...it wasn't, it wasn't going to be, especially with what happened in CoO. Siva's form, eventually it would have (consume enhance replicate) itself, but a nugget was the introduction of it, along with a nugget oryx had said...~"you don't understand evolution...you don't see the end of evolution." Anyways, it's not the base version anymore, it's already SIVA +1...but realistically it is much further down that chain... "We are they who created themselves out of themselves and died in the creation. No longer merely the god in the machine, but the machine in the god." - aksis

      • Could be wrong, but I want to say the lore went in a "Rasputin actually had full control of SIVA the whole time" direction. Because of that, Rasputin's "death" means nobody is able to control SIVA anymore. Since the Replication Chamber is gone, no new SIVA can be created (other than in Outbreak Perfected). Neomuna kinda has SIVA, but it's a modified version that the people of Neomuna have full control over. I will note, I'm calling BS on Rasputin's death. I'm sure he's dead because Bungie wanted to end that storyline, but in reality, Rasputin is an AI. He's software. Meaning, every single piece of hardware in the galaxy that he's touched potentially has fragments of him left. So, unless the witness is hunting down all RAM, CPUs and GPUs in the galaxy and hitting them with a drill, Rasputin absolutely could return. If that does happen, SIVA will probably return, but more in the same way we had the Black Armory. Could have done way more with it, but we just stuck to the guns Ada already knew. My hope is Bungie will have the creative direction to have Banshee, Ada and Rasputin work together to give us a super arsenal of weapons infused with Black Armory tech and enhanced by SIVA. Doubt it'll happen, but I can dream.

      • It was a one-off. SIVA was never meant to be a reoccurring foe, it was created for Rise of Iron and only Rise of Iron and after that the story was done. "Wrapped up nicely with a little bow" as Luke Smith would say.
