60 years to celebrate the production Mustang, the cheap affordable Muscle Car that anyone could buy. Shoutout to Lee Iacocca, John Najjar, Joe Oros, Dave Ash, and Gale Halderman. The Ford Mustang almost was the Ford Cougar, which means there might never have been a Mercury Cougar, there wouldn't be Pony-Cars just Wildcat-Cars. As someone who grew up alongside and even learned how to drive on my Grandpa's 92 5.0 LX Mustang I have to say, its quite the car. His is bone stock its almost got 150,000 miles and still runs like a champ. Fox/SN95 > S197.

  •
Fox/SN95 (New Edge) > S197.
FTFY But I agree. I drove a '10 S197 GT about a year after I traded in my '01 Cobra, and the GT was a pooch in comparison to a car it was supposed to be more powerful than. Love the S550's though.

I believe we had a Mustang discussion already, awhile ago, must have been a few years back. I'm in love with the Fox Mustangs, visually I enjoyed the SN-95 and would love to get a '95 Cobra 5.0 one day. I harp on the S197 too harshly, they ain't that bad, they look better than a retro Camaro Autobot, they also were quite upgradeable. I almost bought a 2011 model but I had some money issues. Was that 01' Cobra with the Terminator engine by any chance?

  • The '99 and '01 were pre Terminator. Same 4.6, 32 valve, but no supercharger. Only the '03 and '04 had that.

  • Ah, I knew there was something about the years but I forgot, it was still an upgradeable engine. Even without a supercharger it was a cool cobra.

  • The '10 gt still had the underpowered 4.6L, the 5.0 came out in '11 which is when it really livened up the mustang

  • Absolutely. But he 4.6 still had a decent amount of power available in it, and could be easily modded for more. My problem was more the feel of it compared to the SN95 New Edge Cobra I had before. The '10 doors came up higher, and I felt like I was in a box. The hood was higher, and it just felt slower all around. I believe that the car dimensions had something to do with that, but I also had done some add ons to the Cobra that put it up around 370ish bHp. I'd love to have a Coyote '15-18 GT. I like the look better than the '19 - present. GT350 not withstanding.... That would be the holy grail car for me.

  • Dimensions probably was the main culprit, as visually the sn95 had a more aerodynamic appearance vs. The retro styling of the s197 that were more boxy Newer gt's are nice but the s197 is still my favorite of the more modern models because of the retro look
