I was all for crafting when it was announced, but they came up with an overly complex system. Thankfully they made it less terrible through several updates, but it would have been so much better if you could combine two of the same weapons into one, taking only the perks you want to keep. The grind still is there if it was expensive, a couple hundred thousand Glimmer and Ascendant Shards, for example. That way you have all current weapons available to modify and customize to your liking. Could have even had Ornaments available to replace the scopes/sights as a bonus.

  • Yes! this is whats confusing about shaping and the grind in Destiny. The grind should be for shape materials and patterns! But the Devs have this over bearing big brother attitude towards crafting. Where you’re not allowed to craft anything too good. (With the exception of shaped exotics or a few of the raid weapons that actually have good perk choices). I just don’t get it. Because RNG does not = play time. Fun = playtime. Thats why I think they NEED to focus more on shaping. More shapeable weapons and freedom with perk choices/combinations. Instead of trying to artificially inflate play time with colossal layers of RNG that lead to disheartened and disgruntled players. No one is realistically going to run the same content 100s of times over for the slim 0.0001% chance at a god roll. The carrot is dangling way too far out of reach, and in reality it’s not worth trying. Especially when you know it’s a possibility you still wont get a god roll after 300 runs. It’s honestly hard not to feel like your time investment is being completely disrespected with the sheer amount of garbage perks in the perk pool that serve no purpose beyond trash rolling weapon drops. As a result people just run the content they want when they want, and if they do get a god roll drop? all the better! BUT if you could shape every weapon and craft a god roll on them, then the carrot now appears much closer and MUCH tastier. The only thing you need to do is unlock the pattern. This is where RNG/grinding comes in. I would gladly run the same activity a 100 times in a week to unlock a pattern and its required matts because the incentive/reward is now realistically obtainable. And the result is now much sweeter. My time investment now feels rewarding because there is light at the end of the tunnel. And I know I get to have fun using my new god roll weapons/synergies. Destiny truly is an amazing game. Gun play, classes, supers, visuals and enemies are all top notch. It’s the devs stubborn attitude towards RNG and weapon perks that tank the whole experience. The community has been screaming about this since D1. But the devs have this strange “my way or the highway” attitude thats really rubbed the fan base the wrong way.
