If those in question are under the age of 13 or put in a birth date that would place them under 13, Bungie has to take certain steps towards protecting them, as required by certain laws and requests; part of that is limiting online interactions until Bungie can implement parental controls within the game. • Yes, one is 12 the other is 11. This sounds exactly like the problem. Bungie must be pulling their age from their steam accounts. It's unfortunate the temporary solution was to just hide it all without any error/info messages. For other parents (and search engines): A few weeks back Destiny 2 chat/voice parental controls kicked in for children under the age of 13. For at least steam, there does not appear to be a workaround until Bungie implements some sort of parental controls in-game.

  • Inputting your date of birth was a requirement on just Bungie.net that started a while ago. A recent update to the game extended that to those people that hadn't put in their date of birth on Bungie.net, and required inputting your date of birth before you could log in to the game. As such, they would have been required to put in their date of birth in order to log into the game after that update; the two individuals you mentioned would have entered it directly themself. Bungie didn't need to pull that information from Steam. I'm not even sure Steam would be allowed to share that information, even if a company were to request it, but I also don't know the privacy requirements and restrictions Steam has.
