Why?
I know the TIWD had more going on but this here caught my attention of a unless change.
What's the point of activating Trench Barrel from a distance when you'd still need to be up close for the shotgun to even be effective? Am I missing something here?
This is like giving Airborn Effectiveness on Whisper of the Worm all over again (Also I still have yet to see an airborne Whisper DPS person/group)
Just change Trench barrel back to how it was by just a timer (if I remember right).

So from the comments its just a QoL update and the only thing that benefits is the solar melee (for radiant) and you'd still have to get close to use the shotty anyways...

Its a buff. Why complain about it? Acrius has 12 meters of range. And its good for pvp to start from range.

They never stated that it’s current mechanics were changing, just that it can now be activated with ranged melee attacks. Which means that it’ll be a much more viable option now for melees like Throwing Hammer. Honestly this change should be implemented with One-Two Punch as well.

What you are missing is this is an ADDITION to the perk and a lot of the times, ranged melees activate up close. You aren’t losing anything but you are gaining QOL with this change. When I’m on warlock, my incinerator snap still activates up close so now it can lead into a trench barrel dps.

For solar melees you can get radiant while activating trench instead of having to do powered into unpowered melee.

Helps with solar because remember when you're on solar you almost always have the "Radiant on melee ability" fragment meaning you get the 25% buff from radiant and the 50% from trench. It's also nice for Warlock stasis and Hunter stasis, Void Titan (overshield from throw and volatile if using aspect), and Arc Titan (Thunderclap)

My thoughts exactly like "oh boy I hit them with my ranged melee! Better run over to them to use trench barrel on my SHOTGUN before time runs out 😃" A very disappointing and useless adjustment.

Because it's awesome. Now let it proc stowed, so you can combo a sword with a Trench Barrel weapon. I can use my shuriken, knife trick, and the smoke combo with weaken. There's a great shotgun loop for Falcon with this change. Void Warlock should combo well too. This was the change I wanted but never thought I'd get.
