What is up with the competitive rank point system? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills seeing the points won or lost at the end of a match. I lose 3-2 after a teammate leaves in the 1st round, I lose 181 points. I win 3-0 against a good team we beat by one life each round and gain 66 points. I top frag and win I get 120 points. I top frag and lose I lose 170 points. It seems to make no sense at all. Obviously I can't see the other team's or my own team's MMR, so I have no idea how we stack up in that way. But why do I lose so many points losses most of the time, regardless of how I do individually, but never gain as much when I win? The most I remember getting after a win is around 130 something. The most I remember losing after a loss is 191. It seems to make no sense. Since it's SBMM (which is silly imo as it nullifies the ranking system), I expect losses and wins to be fairly similar, assuming the lobby consists of similarly skilled players. However, a win streak of several games decidedly helps much less than a loss streak of several games hurts. I just want to understand it. It's not even about my rank or K/D or winning or losing for me: it's that I cannot begin to make sense of how the point system works.
If I'm off my rocker and just shouting into the void it's all good. But if anyone can help me understand it I would greatly appreciate it.

The game has an internal "skill rating" for you that corresponds to a certain comp rank, once you're at or above that rank you start to gain less and lose more.
