I was watching a video on the DCV and it got me thinking about how to engage with new light players. This is my idea.
What if Destiny 2 was essentially broken up into 2 games. New Light (game 1) is free to play but is purely an introductory game. Think of it more as an interactive movie. You download it independent to Destiny and is completely separate from the main service. You have lots of tutorials, select missions and cinematics to tell the story of Destiny. Introductions to play lists etc. Players would get a grip of how to play the game, and collect weapons and armour up to a point where the current expansion (Lightfall) begins.
Upon completion, you can then buy access to Destiny (remove the number as it’s an ever evolving game). Through your log in details, you would pick up where you left off in New Light regarding your gear, light level etc but you would have some kind on continuity into the main game. The hope would be that the story narrative wouldn’t be so jarring. As such, you could delete the New Light (game 1) from your system as it has served its purpose.
It’s a quick thought. Not fleshed out with specifics but what do you think? Do you feel like this approach would help with a smoother introduction to the game?
