It was nice for slower gameplay and accuracy oriented weapons, but it's not what the dynamics of the existing archetypes were designed for, and thus it leaves something to be desired.
For example, 140s are at a spot where, normally, they achieve a 3-shot kill, cut require perfect accuracy. 120s are slower, but more forgiving.
But in checkmate, they now both require 3 shots to kill, thereby vastly reducing the effectiveness and identity of their intrinsic niche.
Scouts are just not even worth using due to needing an extra shot compared to HCs. And Le Monarque is still Le Monarque, so bow-swapping is still on the table.
Plus, checkmate generally isn't friendly to off-metas, so even though stuff is being done to further allow for those the take off, checkmate certainly isn't helping due to the existing damage profiles.
One solution for scouts to make them better at their job without compromising HCs could be to give them a negative fall-off. That way, 150s would 4-tap at short-mid ranges and 3-tap at longer ranges, which would encourage long range dueling, rather than include them at CQB and have them step on HCs' toes.
