Titles/achievement vs gameplay

So... I'm not a vet player, prolly still considered a NL as I didn't join the D community until Season of the Seraph. Bounced from one clan to another, solo played for most of my time as I couldn't find a good clan fit until recently. Anyway... Going into IB yesterday, one of my clanmates I was with, took about 10 minutes explaining about checking progress in season tab(s) for how many IB gear and IB weapons to use to get this achievement, how many kills with it all equipped, transmogging IB gear with another IB gear look to double the bonus per gear, yada yada. I asked him "Does all that increase my chances of getting a God Roll drop?" Another 15 minute explanation ensues to basically say "no". So I say "Why bother then? Why should I use gear/weapons below my current stats just to get an achievement that does nothing for me other than get one step closer to a title over my head?" Whoops. That ticked him off. Apparently he's more into the titles than the gameplay. I'm the other way. I play the game to... get ready for it... to play the game! I don't care about titles, achievements, guilding this that and the other. What's the point? To show what you've done? Ok, so you went flawless solo and got the guilded title. And? I see posts from them about how bad the game is. You're a guilded Star Baker? Ok, and? I see posts from them about how bad the game is. I'm a guilded Ghost Writer. Ok, and? I've posted about how bad the game is. All I've noticed about titles/achievements are that someone has spent a LOT of time and money getting to where they are now. But honestly... what's the benefit? Does it give you a God Roll drop every time you finish a raid? A dungeon? A GMNF? No, it doesn't. Only in IB (as far as I know) does using IB gear/weapons give any kind of benefit... and that's limited to increasing XP gains for rank-ups. Don't have to grind/farm long time for an engram. Get engrams quicker, have the exact same 1 in 15 chance (just saying for example) of getting a God Roll drop. Said all that to say this... Why go thru all the hassle of getting everything checked off the "to-do" list when it provides no benefit other than a shiny set of words over your head? Back before Lightfail, my season level was as high (if not higher) than a lot of Solo Flawless players I had seen in Tower or elsewhere. Now with the new leveling system, 10s and higher look down on 6s, 7s, 8s, whether or not they have 300+ levels in the season. No one celebrates anyone at the tree anymore. Toxicity abounds, egotistical braggarts tell others "Git gud" or "skill issue", this community isn't as "family" as it used to be. Now it's all about titles, medals, and who's got the better gaming chair so you (as in anyone) can 1 shot another player from across the arena around a corner from behind a 2nd wall. Cheats/hacks don't make a player good. I know this post is all over the place, but the main part is the effort behind the achievements provide no benefit to drops or gameplay, so why bother? Really?

  • Since exotic weapons bound to newer dungeons and raids like GoTD and RoN have an increased drop chance after completing triumphs there's a point in doing them. Also u don't have to 3 man a raid but it's fun to do when you're good enough. TLDR, if u can't be bothered to do something doesn't mean others can't be bothered.
Does all that increase my chances of getting a God Roll drop
Wearing IB gear heavily increases IB reputation (you even acknowledge that) which in turn allows for more focusing with Saladin. So it does not change the odds for the single drops but more drops improve your overall odds for godrolls by a lot.
Why should I use gear/weapons below my current stats
This is a relevant concern for newer players. The (imo) best ways to get around this are: - Using an IB class item (this loses only 3 stats versus an artifice class item) - Using any IB heavy (weapons count as well; also how often do you use your heavy and does it have significant potential to change the outcome of matches?) - Transmog your gear to IB: Transmogs count. (I am not sure if you can still doubledip by using IB gear and transmogging it to different IB gear.) _____________ Titles have always just been a a word above your head with no benefit. What I don't understand is that you acknowledge exactly that and feel forced and talk about the hamster wheel. The simple solution for that is: Just don't care. Since they aren't doing anything gameplay relevant, you can just get by fine by ignoring them. You even say that: "why bother?". So why do you bother so much?

  • People are motivated by a number of things. You do you and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Same goes for them, what they think is important may be to them so let them have it. My thing was always pinnacle gear. Redrix Claymore epitomised this and I don’t think there has been any like it since. (Maybe not forgotten). The game offers different things for different people. That’s what makes it great.

  • No idea if you’re familiar with the concept, but it’s called “vanity.” Same reason why people use shaders, emblems etc.

Really?
You’re talking about actually playing the game versus chasing titles and or achievements as if they don’t go hand in hand, which they do. Players have to play the associated content to acquire the seals/titles and while they do they can also chase god roll’s simultaneously. Acquiring seals/titles may be a “hassle” for some but for others it’s far from it. I’m not exactly sure why you’re bringing up season levels like that’s somehow relevant or illustrates a players abilities when all it amounts to is who obtained the most XP lol. A player can have 500 season pass levels and still be nothing more than a patrol jockey who would buckle in all endgame content so that entire point and argument is just asinine. You talk about toxicity but this entire ridiculous rant is just you being toxic and salty about something that literally has zero affect on you. If you don’t like chasing seals and their titles then don’t, it’s not rocket science lol.

  • Speaking only for myself, I strive for seals, triumphs (the ones tied to seals, usually), and Rank for me. I don't equip a title, plenty of the weapons I use and like aren't considered god-roll or even popular, and I use Exotic armor that I find utilitarian but also fun. The rest is secondary; if you're not concerned with any of that, then the reason others are makes no difference. Long and short, play the game the way that allows you to enjoy it.

  • I promise you, the community was never "family". It's always been just as sour, just as selfish, hell it was worse when there were more people who still played the game. However, you're just participating in this behavior. People play for different reasons, and value different things in the game. Leveling a season pass is the most passive thing you can do in this game, and it doesn't show anything other than you earned X amount of XP. Titles and triumphs are easy ways to see what someone has accomplished SPECIFICALLY in the game. You don't have to care, just like most people don't care what season rank you are. It's nothing personal, it just doesn't matter. Different strokes, different folks and all that...

  • When you have nothing remaining to get in the game and can spend a full day playing and delete everything that drops titles mean something. Titles are something else to unlock 🤣 not all of us can play the same content over and over and over just to play the content

  • Wall of text. Long story short. You are new and for good reasons are not (yet) interested in titles and triumphs. Long term veterans have different priorities cause your grind for gear and getting toys to play with was accomplished a long time ago. Titles and triumphs are "rich" people's toys. Not necessary but nice to have.

  • Idk why you would think about money spent when looking at titles buuuuut ok lmao. Funny you later mention seasonal level as some accomplishment like that's not more directly affected by money than titles.... No, wearing the armor won't get you a better chance at a god roll (? lmao) but it will get you more rep which will get you more drops quicker which will give you more chances at your precious roll. I mean we can just turn this logic on you. Why get a god roll? Why bother? I can go flawless without them. I can do raids without them. I can do anything in the game without the 5/5 best roll of a gun, so why concern myself with god rolls? What purpose does it serve? So I can show it off to other people? Like titles? Hm. Just chase what you want to chase. It's really that simple. Not to mention saying the community isn't as family as it used to be while also admitting you haven't even been around one calendar year yet (Seraph started in Decemeber 2022) is VERY odd lmao.

  • It's all a waste of time. The only thing there is in this game is to show off, I mean, unless you like playing the same thing over and over and over and over (I could continue, but I think you get the idea) Kinda sad really, isn't it?

    • Generally speaking, I mind myself. I don’t care about guardian rank. I’m not much bothered about titles. If someone else is rank 11 (or whatever it goes upto) and has a title that took a lot of effort then honestly, I’m happy for them. However if they’re being an 🫏 and using it as some kind of eepeepee then they can -blam!- right off.

    • I agree that gameplay is 100% more important than titles, but in a loot-based game you can’t fault someone for going the completionist route. People like to show it off as how good they are or how much time they’ve put in. I collect weapons. I like fun, unique weapons. A lot of the incentive for me is to collect weapons or armor ornaments. That’s a big part of the game that I enjoy. Some people are that way with titles. Seeing that title next to their name gives them a sense of joy. But for your example there is a reason to go after IB booster things. It actually does help you get the god roll faster - increased Rep gain speed leads to significantly more rank ups and in turn more IB engram drops. Basically, if you want to farm weapons fast you should probably be trying to get all the rep you can - hence the rep booster requirements.
