Hi I have been playing destiny 2 since launch and just recently my steam account was hacked. I have no idea how or why. Since it happened I have changed emails, passwords, setup 2 step verification etc to protect myself. This worked for my steam however unbeknownst to me destiny 2 has a massive loop hole which allowed the hacker to still remain logged into my account via ‘’Cross Save’’.
Since changing my passwords updating emails etc. This hacker was unable to access my account, however in the short window he was in control of my account he instantly used bungies in built flaw, know as ‘’Cross Save’’ to link my account to his own so even though I had taken every possible measure to protect my account after find out it had been compromised. I still end up losing everything due to the fact for some stupid reason you cannot remove cross save for 90 days, after a new account is linked so for the next 90 days my account will continue to have its items deleted, characters removed, etc. Bungie will do absolutely nothing. This was the response bungie gave me upon hearing this via ticket support.

Which in all honesty means we don’t care here is a generic response helping in no way.
best.titan.slayer btw is the hackers name not my own. Just one amount many’s things he has changed and bungie refuses to do anything about. I am in awe how my account with 3k hours on steam, with over 5 years of work is being allowed to be destroyed by something out of my control.
I find the whole situation an insult to customer service standards as a whole. Why is the motto of a company if someone hacks your account ’’Your problem not mine’‘ it’s the equivalent of a solider stepping on a landmine, which he could not see coming and then wheeled into the hospital to be told ‘’sorry our policy is you stepped on it you lose your legs no help from us mate‘’ It’s legit sickening how bungie policy with accounts being stolen is so backwards. I truly hope that that this is some massive joke and my account will be fixed. So far half my vault has disappeared, I assume deleted and or stolen by this hacker as well as above name changed. Removed from clan and doing everything possible to ruin my account. Please can someone and bungie please give a toss for once and undo this mistake as if it were not for ’’cross save’’ being setup I may have been able to stop this guy destroying everything I earned ;(.

Hello there, Unfortunately, Bungie cannot assist in compromised accounts. Bungie.net uses platform authentication to login to the site. Which means, basically, you login to xbox/psn/steam/epic and they generate a token that allows you to sign into Bungie.net. Bungie, themselves have no access to your login details, so they cannot verify if you are the owner of the account or the person who compromised the account, so the requirement was made that to make changes to cross save, all accounts must be authenticated and to remove a linked account, cross save cannot be enabled and you will have to authenticate the account you are removing.

I just had my account stolen as well. THey thief tried to sell me back my account adn when I refused deleted everything. The fact that Bungie refuses to help is bad. I now either regrind 7 years of play or move forward with what I can or.. quit and I tell you after hundreds spent on bungie and the lack of support they provide loyal customers while doing very little to stop cheating and the resolution of stolen accounts.. it seems better to just wash my hands of the game, move on and do something else. WHy keep supporting a company that very obviously doesn't care about its consumer base.

I know this is a few months old post but i know how you feel about this situation. couple years back "during the lose of cayde-6" i was able to connect my game to steam since i was transitioningfrom xbox to pc. few weeks in someone hacked my steam and got my destiny 2 a lifetime ban" meaning i cant play on PC or Xbox". this was before there new ban appeal. but i came to the support forums to explain my issue but the bungie community is so toxic saying i deserved being hacked or that im the reason why i was banned then a forum admin came to help me but he said once im banned im banned then threatened to ban my bungie account all together. so here i am years later and unable to play one of my favorite games
