As someone who got Thousand Voices on my 89th clear and Anarchy on my 100th clear, this is a very good move. As someone who got Touch on my 1st clear, this move sucks. Overall, it is a change for the better. The player has a choice if they want to grind rather than rely entirely on RNG.

It is still entirely almost entirely RNG, which kind of defeats the purpose of giving us a quest to obtain it if RNG is more of a factor in this than if it was just a random drop. I personally refuse to believe anyone who claims to have spent that much time trying to get a raid drop, but even if it's true, they thankfully allow us to infinitely farm raids/ dungeons during featured weeks. As things stand with Necro though, I'm hoping the current RNG is a bug because it feels as though your very first completion is guaranteed, or at least has a high chance of giving 2 Essence, but this would be a first to my knowledge, essentially making completion 1 the exotic run and 2-3 the red border/ armor runs. We can farm them, yes, but the chances are low enough that when I was farming Ir Yut earlier, only 2 people got any after an hour or so of 1 phasing her. The drop rates are insanely low, enough so that you're better off doing the triumphs, assuming you can find a group able to do it. I don't think people care so much about the grind as they do his spread out it is. I only got 2 on my first completion, none on my second, 2 on my third (after reset), 1 from farming the boss, and 2 from triumphs. Now, if we were guaranteed anywhere from 2-4 per weekly completion, it would be different. I'd basically get it as soon as I got all the other raid exotics thus far, which was in 12 completions or less. The rest would really just be to speed run the catalyst. I'm half expecting this to be a bug because I don't think they've ever done account based rewards like this before, it's always been character based as far as I remember. So, if this is the case, it wouldn't be out of the question for them to either compensate players for loot they didn't get, boost drop rates, or at least allow us to get Essence on all characters. Even if they don't, most will probably either attempt the triumphs, get their weekly 2, or farm the boss until they're done.

  • Better question, why wait until now, with no warning that I know of at least, to basically tell players "only your first completion per week will progress the exotic quest"? I've been around since D1 beta and I can't think of any other time they made any lock out, soft or otherwise, account based and not character based. Also, I said 2-4 per weekly completion, meaning if you were extremely lucky, you could get the weapon in 2 weeks, but you could also get it in 4 weeks. At least to my experience with raid exotics, it wouldn't be any further from the luck I've had this far: Got Vex in D1 on probably my 4th or 5th run. Never got a group for the Y2 version. Got Necro on my 2nd or 3rd after it was brought back in ROI. Didn't get the Y1 version in my 2 or 3 runs. Got ToM within the first couple weeks of KF being out in D1. Got Collective Obligation on my 8th or 9th run during the featured week. Got Vex in D2 on my 5th or 6th. Got 1K on my 6th or 7th during featured week. Any other raid weapons not mentioned, I either never got a group to even attempt the raid, or bought from the monument. Either I've been consistently lucky, or Bungie on average wants players to get these things within a certain number of tries.

Waiting 5 weeks or hell even 20 means nothing when they know they will get it when they want

  • Less of a complaint and more of an observation. As for people going that long without the exotic, they're probably experiencing a bug at that rate. If the exotics really do have a 5% drop chance as I've read others say for years, what are the chances that someone will go +100 clears without an item they should've gotten around run 20? Even if they are telling the truth and it's not a big that's basically impossible to prove, their chances have only improved thanks to the triumphs that players as dedicated as them have likely completed all of.

  • But it’s literally still RNG. Instead of a single 1-in-20 chance, it’s 20 1-in-4’s. It’s effectively the same if not worse than it was before.

  • Wdym rely entirely on rng? It’s a -blam!- quest. You have to rely on it either way.
