Fishing can be interrupted/halted by an Inactivity kick if you don't move around or press a different button other than continuously holding the square button after a given time frame.
I started playing around 7 am., I'm in a Eastern Daylight Time Zone, Michigan. I was Solo queueing on Nessus to do quests and was not planning to fish but started when I noticed someone sparrow fly from spawn to the fishing pond and decided to join them. I started fishing around 7:15 am. with said guardian and other guardians who didn't stick around long. I pulled an exotic fish within a short amount of time and was surprised and excited because I had just started fishing randomly and decided to continue to fish (while I ate breakfast and coffee IRL). I fished for a while, holding square, watching other guardians and was encouraged when I noticed that focused fishing was almost max focus. I got kicked due to inactivity around 7:45 am, I checked my postmaster and none of the fish that were left on the ground went to my postmaster or inventory. I would have taken more accurate screenshots/video of what happened before and after I got kicked but I wasn't expecting the kick and rushed to make this post, as well as a X [Twitter] post purely out of bewilderment confusion. I don't know how to record in the way that shows you/records the past 20-30 seconds of your gameplay on PlayStation, I know it's possible on Xbox though and would have done it on PlayStation if I knew how to for evidence purposes. I was actively playing in front of the television holding square and paying attention to perfect catches and was kicked in the middle of a casted line, listening to Nessus ambience and eating food.
Do I HAVE to move my character every 15 minutes if all I'm doing is pressing square? Could I have gotten my rewards in postmaster after? Am I just being problematic about losing 20-30 minutes of progress or has this always been the case? I play on PlayStation but I imagine this is a protection against macro users but if I did use a macro or some kind of way to automate this process, can FISHING be the exception? There really isn't an exploit or glitch that I know of involving fishing (I believe)? You can only cast your line so fast, you can only have so much bait (the rate of return bait is reduced I believe now that Season of the Deep is over), and you can only play for so long before a public event interrupts you. It's much harder to get focused fishing as a solo player and the bar was almost maxed from other players visiting while I was fishing. Why isn't fishing in itself an event or something within the game that allows for pressing only square? Can fishing be the one place where when on the map of a world, pressing interact and only interact within different time intervals without being pixel perfect with every catch (I still missed some perfect catches) be the exception to being kicked from the Server? I wasn't even originally there to fish, I was supposed to be progressing the 'Divine Fragmentation' quest and doing the 'Precision Calibration' seasonal challenge but was punished for taking time for myself before getting back into quest hunting. I'm just confused and I feel like I wasted my time.

You typed all that to complain about fishing.
